Why jelly is used during sonography?

it transmits the sound waves from the probe to the skin

to be more specific - Ultrasound waves travel very poorly through air....even the little bit that would be present between the probe and the skin when it is dry. The gel lets the waves transmit from the probe to the skin, and thus the tissues beneath. That is why ultrasound can be applied to many different areas of the body; except the lungs. (full of air)

What does it mean if the ultrasound shows an empty placenta sac at 6 weeks?

I had a ultrasound scan at 7 weeks 3 days, and the pregnancy sac was visible, but my doctor could not find the fetal pole or heartbeat. He said there can be a significant amount of dvelopment from week 7 to 8, and I sm scheduled for another scan in a week's time. He said this wasn't necessarily bad news so I'll just have to wait.

Can an internal ultrasound detect pregnancy before implantation?

From just over 5 weeks, see the associated website I had my first u/s done at less than five weeks I was probably 4.4 weeks, but all I showed was the yolk sac and the sac....no fetal pole or baby. == an internal ultrasound can detect a pregnancy much sooner than an external ultrasound, even if all it detects is a yolk sac.....there would not be a yolk sac if you were not pregnant.

Is it common not to see an embryo on a 6 week scan?

I went to the ER on Saturday (I should have been 5 weeks exactly) with cramping and a HR 130. I have never had any bleeding. The ER docs thought my baby was in a tube. So they did a U/S and said that all was good and that the baby was actually 5 weeks and 4 days. When I went to my scheduled U/S on the following Wednesday, the Radiologist thought that the baby was supposed to measure 6 weeks 1 day... she said that there was no heartbeat and that the u/s had not changed that much from Saturday... she called it a failed pregnancy. I went immediately to my fertility doctor, who calculated from my date of ovulation (I had artificial insemination, so I know when i ovulated)... he said that I was 5 weeks and 4 days on WEDNESDAY... but he said you should see a embryo by 5 weeks and 4 days... he said I have a 66% of miscarriage. I have to go back in a week for another u/s... Has anyone else gone through this? Does an u/s really change that much in 4 days?

When can you tell you're pregnant?

You obviously want to tell you husband, or significant other, but waiting until the end of your first trimester is what is suggested. If things can go wrong, that will happen mostly in the first three months of pregnancy. If you hiding your pregnancy and you want to keep the baby, I suggest that you should wait until you are at least 3 months along.

What are the main uses of the ultrasound machines?

A technology well-known in the medical fields, ultrasound technology has a wide variety of applications and is used in countless industries. === === Ultrasound uses echoes of sound waves to construct a three dimensional image of the inside of the body, most commonly recognized with pregnancy and the viewing of a developing fetus. Ultrasound is also used for: * detecting pelvic abnormalities * treating benign and malignant tumors and other disorders * cleaning teeth in dental hygiene * treating cataracts * continuous ultrasonic sound waves are used by physiotherapists for treating deep soft tissue injuries - promoting healing (loosens scar tissue) and helping to relieve pain by heating the tissue * pulse ultrasonic sound waves are used in cases where the heating of the tissues is undesireable * phonophoresis is a process where ultrasound is used for pushing anti-inflammatory drugs into the body * lithotripsy is the process of breaking up kidney stones with sound waves In addition, ultrasound is also being used as a replacement for traditional thermal and mechanical manufacturing processes and techniques and as a non-destructive method for finding flaws in metals, plastic and other materials; measuring the thickness of objects; and heat transferring in liquids. Ultrasonic cleaning is also used by jewelers for cleaning fine jewelry. There are also several applications currently being tested. Ultrasonic weapons are currently in development where a focused beam of sound is used to injure or incapacitate. Sonoluminescence is another use being investigated for nuclear fusion. Researchers recently employed ultrasound in dry corn milling plant to enhance ethanol production. Ultrasonics are also used in humidifiers, nebulizing the water to produce a fine mist that helps some people breathe.

Why is ovulation test positive but seen baby on ultrasound of baby?

No because a pregnancy test measures HCG ,and you only make enough to make a test positive when your pregnant.

How many weeks do you have to be to check the sex of your baby?

Usually between weeks 13-28 you will generally have an ultrasound that can detect the gender of your baby. If you have an ultrasound done during the first part of your second trimester it might be more difficult to tell. It is easier to determine if your baby is a boy than a girl. In other words, if your baby is a boy, there is no doubt but if your baby is a girl and the ultrasound is done at week 13, the sonographer might not be 100% certain that it is a girl because of positioning and just the overall smallness of your child at this point.

How long before a doctor can see a baby in an ultrasound?

ABout 5 to 6 Weeks, not much there to see really. They are tiny tiny then. God bless

How much can you drink before you drown yourself?

Drinking too much water can lead to a condition known as water intoxication and to a related problem resulting from the dilution of sodium in the body, hyponatremia. You can't drown yourself unless you get too much water in your windpipe, which the human body is designed to avoid. The bladder can only hold so much water before it ruptures however; about 500-700 mL. == ==

How do you detect the gender of the baby inside?

You cannot predict, but some say a woman will carry a boy low and a girl high.

Any method for predicting the gender of a baby is considered to be Wives' tales and are not supported by the medical community. There are several medical procedures used to predict the gender, such as the ultrasound (which is not always accurate), blood tests and chromosomal tests (which are always accurate if you have to have one completed).

The myth that a woman carrying a boy high and a girl high stems from stereotype. This stereotype is that a boy is more independent, thus will be carried lower or 'further away from his mother' and that a girl needs more protection, thus carried closer to her mother or 'carried high.'

There are many Wives' tales out there for predicting the gender. Lot of them are based on those stereotypes of boy vs. girl behavior. There are some who believe in these Wives' tales so much as they consider them fact because they have been right most of the time. The basis is that ANY method for predicting the gender in this way (even one that you make up yourself) has the odds of 50/50 of being right. Even odds there.

The only Wives' tale that had ever been considered by the medical community to be accurate was the rate of the heartbeat. A girl's fetal heartbeat is faster - over 140 beats per minute, while a boy's fetal heartbeat was slower - lower than 140 beats per minute. I guess if your baby's heartbeat was 140 beats per minute on the dot, it was a toss-up between the two. However, this myth has recently been debunked by scientific research because the rate of the heartbeat can fluctuate between boys and girls alike from various things like fetal or mother stress, mother illness, and at the stage of development for the fetus.

But, all of these Wives' tales for predicting the gender of the fetus before it is born makes for some great Baby Shower games! On that note, I wouldn't go decorating the nursery or shopping for a complete wardrobe based on the outcome of any of them!

Could your 8 week scan be 3 weeks wrong?

They claim to be completely accurate but actually can be one week off either way

What are some of the practical applications of ultrasound pictures?

Ultrasound pictures are a fantastic advancement in technology. One practical application of ultrasound is in the non-invasive monitoring of fetal development in pregnant women.

What does a twenty five week old fetus look like?

A fully formed miniature human being who basically needs 12 more weeks to put on fat, and brain/nervous system continue to mature, but 28 weeks is the magic number where, if born, would have excellent chances of survival.

How can you tell if im having a boy or girl?

Usually, babies are born at the hospital. There, they have a machine on one of the floors. After the nurse or doctor is finished using it, she will tell you if your baby will live as a boy, or a girl. You don't have to wait for the nurses or doctors or even the immediate delivery results to tell if the baby is a boy or a girl. Ultrasounds should be able to tell, eventually, if the child is a boy or a girl, as boys have something a little more obvious between their legs than what girls are idenfied by as infants and new borns. hi l had a boy in my first pregnancy and l was only sick once and l had no problems through my pregnancy, now lm seven weeks pregnant l feel constantly sick all the time lm getting backaches terribly, how do you know when you are having a boy or a girl can any one help me thank you

Can an ultrasound be wrong?

The date of conception can't actually be determined, but the fetal growth usually reflects how far along the mother to be is , so i believe an ultrasound is pretty accurate.

It depends when in the pregnancy it is done. The earlier in pregnancy the more accurate it is. So at 7 weeks it is only going to be inaccurate by 3 or 4 days.

If you have your first U/s at 8 months it is not nearly as accurate as babies vary so much in size.

What are the advantages of ultra sound machine?

Many and manifold but this is a highly technical device that could be abused, so it is way beyond the parameters of Hobby kits of the heathkit variety or Science-Fair projects. They are used for medical diagnosis and hence may well be restricted.

Why would a doctor prescribe an ultrasound?

It depends on the woman and the particulars of her pregnancy. Some doctors are more comfortable watching fetal development very closely, especially following fetal loss (miscarriage). Others there are real medical concerns the doctor must keep an eye on bleeding, fetal growth, if IUGR is suspected, a poorly working placenta or just small for dates. There are many physical reasons to have sonograms done regularly.

For some women, the sonogram is just a reassurance that the baby is well, developing and growing normally.

Is an ultrasound scan measured from your last period or when the baby was conceived?

Hi An ultrasound provides a picture of the baby in the womb. The date of conception could be intelligently guessed at by your gynacologist, probably to within a couple of days if not better.

Answer

The date of conception would be calculated by the professional and the length of pregnancy is found by working back two weeks before this.

Ultrasounds have only been around for thirty years or so and before that the only way of calculating the length of pregnancy was from the first day of the last period - on average two weeks before conception as we now know.

How long until you start to show your pregnant?

It depends on your size and body frame. Every woman is different. Generally you will notice something around month 4. It varies from person to person. It depends on your body structure and how fast the baby is growing. I have know people to show at 5 months and some didn't show until 8 months. So it is all dependent on how skinny you are and how big the baby is. Hi, It really depends on your body frame. Second pregnancies usually show more earlier than the first pregnancy and first pregnancies sometimes don't show until 5/6 months into the pregnancy. Good luck and take care.
You start showing when you are 5 or 6 months pregnant.

When was my baby conceived if on July 21st I was 11 weeks and 1 day according to my ultrasound?

Conception date is based on your last ovulation cycle prior to when you didn't get your period. But this can be incorrect if you didn't conceive when you was ovulating. Alternatively you can have a ultrasound scan which will give you a conception date but this can be off by 5 days.

If an ultrasound determined that you are 8 weeks and 1 day on April 23 2008 is it possible that you conceived on Feb 29 2008?

If you measured 8weeks 1 day on the 23rd April, that means your LMP was around the 26th February. You would have concieved around 14 days/ 2 weeks after your period, ie when you were ovulating.

Conception dates would have been 11th March. Accuracy of ultrasounds at 8 weeks is extremely high, plus or minus three days. To be on safe side you lets say likely conception will have been 8th March to 14th March.

I think its highly unlikely you concieved 29th February, only three days after your LMP>
