Can a sergeant major become a command sergeant major?
In the most unlikely situation, it could happen. By which, I mean a situation like this: the remainder of the battalion is wiped out, and every officer is killed (or else the surviving officers are just cherry Lieutenants). CSM is a battlion level or higher NCO grade. If you're joining the military, don't anticipate seeing a CSM in any position other than that of a CSM.

How much does a retired army reserve colonel make?
Depends how long he served. 20 years = 50% base pay, 30 years = 75% base pay. It also depends on what year he retired, as the base pay goes up 3-5% every year, so he receives whatever his base pay WAS, not what it is NOW.
What are eight steps in troop leading process?
8. Supervise
The leader supervises the unit's preparation for combat by conducting rehearsals and inspections.
(1) Rehearsals. The leader uses rehearsals to--
Practice essential tasks (improve performance).
Reveal weaknesses or problems in the plan.
Coordinate the actions of subordinate elements.
Improve soldier understanding of the concept of the operation (foster confidence in soldiers).
(a) Rehearsals include the practice of having squad leaders brief their planned actions in execution sequence to the platoon leader.
(b) The leader should conduct rehearsals on terrain that resembles the actual ground, and in similar light conditions.
(c) The platoon may begin rehearsals of battle drills and other SOP items before the receipt of the operation order. Once the order has been issued, it can rehearse mission specific tasks.
(d) Some important tasks to rehearse include--
Actions on the objective.
Assaulting a trench, bunker, or building.
Actions at the assault position.
Breaching obstacles (mine and wire).
Using special weapons or demolitions.
Actions on unexpected enemy contact.
(2) Inspections. Squad leaders should conduct initial inspections shortly after receipt of the warning order. The platoon sergeant spot checks throughout the unit's preparation for combat. The platoon leader and platoon sergeant make a final inspection. They should inspect--
Weapons and ammunition.
Uniforms and equipment.
Mission-essential equipment.
Soldier's understanding of the mission and their specific responsibilities.
Communications.
Rations and water.
Camouflage.
Deficiencies noted during earlier inspections.

Postal uniforms that are still in good condition can be donated to new letter carriers that take time to acquire a full complement of uniforms. Maybe I should start a network to facilitate this idea.

What has more action the marines or the Army?
Depends on what the future holds, and also what you do. Both services deploy frequently... rotations might be more commonplace in the Marines, as it has a much smaller force to draw from. Both forces have units which deploy regularly, and they both have units which don't deploy at all. If your purpose of enlisting is simply looking for "action", you may want to reconsider it.... after three tours as a Combat Medic in the Army, I can tell you firsthand your eagerness for "action" will wane very quickly.

Can you enlist in the army rangers without serving in the army?
No... doesn't it seem a bit of a redundant question? The Rangers are an element of the Army... to serve in an Army unit, you have to be in the Army. Don't really see any other way to go about it. If you're just interested in the school, you can go through it without being in the Army... but you'd still have to be serving in some branch of the military.

Did Jefferson Davis support the secession of the Southern states from the Union?
Yes. Davis was not one of the fire breathing advocates of the idea who took the lead in urging secession. But he did think it was the best thing for his state of Mississippi and the other southern states. Davis was a West Point graduate and an authentic hero of the Mexican War, and one of the few Americans who had so much as seen an entire regiment assembled in one place, let alone commanded a regiment in combat, and so hoped to be named commanding general of the army of the new southern nation. Instead he was chosen as its new president by the convention meeting in Montgomery, Alabama to adopt the Confederate Constitution and organize the new government. Davis had resigned from the US Senate and was at home in Mississippi when he was selected by the convention as president.
