When and why did the US Navy discontinue the rank Warrant Officer 1?

The rank of Warrant Officer 1 (WO1 (W1) was discontinued by the Navy in 1975. The reason was that senior enlisted personnel would actually lose money on their payscale when promoted to WO1, leaving not much of an incentive to advance to the CWO ranks.

The Navy now commissions all its CWO beginning with CWO2, and the pay scales have also caught up so that when retiring, it's more than your prior senior enlisted pay would've been.

Undesignated is the term used for Seaman, Airman (aviation), or Fireman (engineering) in the Navy who have graduated from Boot Camp, but have not yet selected a rating or career path yet. Once they do, they're termed "Strikers"; once they achieve Petty Officer 3rd Class in a particular rate, their rating insignia appears on their Rank/Rate insignia (patches, pins, etc.).

What does the navy do when a sailor dies overseas?

It depends on the circumstances.

For combat deaths on land, every effort is made to locate, recover, and return the remains to the family of the sailor for burial/cremation. If a sailor dies aboard ship, it depends on the ship or submarine; if it's a ship within a Carrier Group, they'll fly the remains to Dover AFB for processing. If it's on a submarine or a ship without access to air transfer, or the tactical situation won't allow for a transfer, the crew will store the remains in the ship's freezer until such time as they can reach port and transfer the body.

Are tattoos that are visible on the neck allowed in the navy?

yes

Where can you get stationed in the navy if im an LS?

Pretty much anywhere there's a Navy unit or command - even the smallest of units have at least 1 Storekeeper aboard or attached. You can't get supplies without the Porkchops being around to take your supply chits and process them.

There's an old understanding in the Navy that there are 3 people aboard you don't want to have on their bad side:

1. Admin (records DO get lost you know, as well as pay information)

2. The Doc - OOPS, lost your shot record...

3. The 'Chops - if you've got stuff you need to get fixed, you need a Supply Chop to process your request and get it for you.

Do the navy seals have reservists?

Absolutely, but they're typically prior service Navy with several tours who are doing their Reserve time to finish out their careers, unless their is a specific need for them and they're still combat eligible. We had a SEAL squad in my Pentagon Navy Reserve Unit (OPNAV) during my own Reserve stint in the early 90's - they were some of the top SEALs in the game, and all were then current FBI Special Agents. 2 of them formed the original FBI Counter-terrorist unit, and another I remember seeing as the Agent-in-Charge in Boston after 9/11. They were a lot of fun to be around - great sailors and warriors, the oldest (a Captain and Commander) having served 4 tours in Vietnam.

Can a specalist make a soldier get down and do push ups?

If they're given authority to do so. If a Specialist is serving, for instance, as your fire team leader, and they tell you to get down, you'd better. But that's pretty much limited to within their unit - in many cases, within their own platoon. A Specialist from A Company isn't going to go to a Private from C Company and tell them to do push ups.
