Why did people settle in Utah?

The members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints were the first known immigrants of the Eastern United States to settle in Utah with their prophet, Brigham Young. They settled in the area now called Utah because they sought refuge from the violence and hatred that they were shown while nearly everywhere else. The Saints relocated many times due to Angry Mobs, Eviction orders, execution orders, and many other hardships. The final movement occurred after the first Prophet of the Church, Joseph Smith Jr., was martyred by a mob while in prison at Curtland. Brigham Young was then chosen to be the next Leader of the church, and was threatened to leave the state for taking up the position. Furious with the U.S. government for not stepping in to defend their right of the 1st amendment of the U.S. constitution, they traveled West, and made their way to Utah. It was there in Utah that Brigham Young stopped the pioneers, they set up their lives, and placed the cornerstones for the location of the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
