Why do you honor the military?
I honor the military because they are the men and women who stood up to answer the call to protect and serve their country when others were to scared or proud to do something. They are the ones doing the job that most would only like to talk about over a cup of coffee or tea with a group of friends about their own political beliefs. Remember soldiers in the Military are Americans too, just as a lot of people dislike police officers after you receive a ticket but when something happens and they show up you are happy for them to help you.
Not all veterans are treated bad. Some are because most people might not like their cause/what they are working towards. Veterans are taken for granted and that wrong.
Can I change my General Discharge to a Honorable Discharge?
It depends on what your RE code is on your DD-214. If it's an RE-4, your chances are highly unlikely, unless you appeal your discharge. With it being general under honourable conditions, an RE-4 would seem a bit unlikely, however. Any RE-3 code renders you ineligible for reenlistment, but you can still be waivered in. Whether or not the ANG will grant you a waiver is dependent on a number of things that really only the recruiter will be able to determine, and, in turn, provide you with a definite answer.
Can a common law spouse collect veterans benefits?
If you live in a state where common law marriage is recognized social security has a procedure for you to register and collect benefits as a spouse.
What are the benefits for a spouse of 100 percent disabled veteran?
the spouse has no entitlement to the veterans benefits (the post states that the spouse has no entitelment to the veterans benefits) the spouse is entitled to education benefits, ChampVa medical, the life insurance paid by the VA, the spouse would be beneficiary (if was chosen) if the veteran passes due to the disability caused by service connection then there are pay benefits. So, whoever answered this in the first place did a horrible job. There are benefits to the spouse. Look them up on the VA web site, easy to find. Or call your local VA office. Horrible answer! Mine is not complete but gives you some idea, that there are benefits for the spouse, not necessarily the veterans benefits but your own.
What problems did Vietnam veterans face?
Back in those days (60's/70's) when people found out you were a Viet War vet, they'd either walk away from you; or give you a sneer . . . then walk away from you, or start an argument with you . . . or spit on the ground with their eye on you. Or, in some stretched examples, start a fist fight. Until the US Government passed the Veteran Non-Discrimination Act in about 1974 (specifically listing Vietnam Vets)... SOME employers would not hire you . . . thinking you might cause problems at work, etc.
So, it was best to keep quiet about the war. Which is why, again...it's puzzling to Vietnam War Veterans why so many people are claiming to be Viet War Vets today . . . they didn't want to serve their country then . . . why the interest now . . . especially since it's been close to 40 years.
Today there are MILLIONS of fake Viet Veterans, which is a little puzzling, since very few men wanted to admit he was in Vietnam (in some case even the military) back in the 60's and 70's.

What are the VA benefits for chernobyl exposure for veterans?
unfortunately the VA does not have any case law or substantial claims linking the chernobyl nuclear disaster in April 1986 and its aftermath to veterans and their families. HOWEVER, statistical and scientifically cancer has been a known cause of over exposure to ionized radiation, and has also been known to take up to 20 years or more to show symptoms. In the case of chernobyl Acute Leukemia (cancer of the blood) and Thyroid Cancer have been linked specifically.
My Father was diagonsed with Acute Leukemia approx 1 year ago, his bone marrow transplant failed and is now in hospice slowly and painfully dying. We believe it is directly linked to Chernobyl as we were stationed at Zweibrucken Air Force Base from 1983 until 1987.
My baby sister was born November 1986 with a blood disorder that was unable to be determined and remained in PICU for the first 2 months of her life.
File your claim with the VA and provide documentation from oncology physicians etc stating this medical link and see what happens. Without claims filed and decsions appealed when denied we cant make this an issue the congressional board will look at.

How many Vietnam war veterans are still living in Vietnam?
Of course, many, many of them. In fact, the last World War I soldier only died a few months ago.
Although about 50,000 soldiers died in the war, the others came home. Many of the younger ones were born after 1950, making them part of the baby boomer generation, which is still going strong.

Why do people sacrifice themselves?
they thought that sarificing would give them sun and rain
My spouse was 17, thrown in by his mother, after seeing what he saw in Vietnam to his brothers, he asked when he was 18 to go into action. He could not sit by and watch as his brothers gave their lives. How it's affecting him now, that's a different story. PTSD, Agent Orange Exposure and more. The worst thing I ever did, I thought I was helping was take him to the wall. That is not for those who were there. It's for families and/or tourism. Worst thing I ever did to him. Although at the time, he did not realize it would affect him, or he would not have gone.
Are you considered a veteran after finishing basic training ait?
According to the VA "veterans administration" you are not considered a veteran of the armed services until you have completed 180 days of active duty not including time in training such as basic training and ait. This would also preety much rule out all or atleast most people in the reserves and national guard. my two cents- It is ignorant to say that "This would also pretty much rule out all or at least most people in the reservist and national guard." Especially since the war is being fought mostly by reservist and guardsmen. Yeah right "One weekend a month".
