Is Crescent trading a good violin producer?

In order to judge whether a violin is a good beginner violin, we must make sure the violin passes our 8 point test. Here it is: -Make sure that the fine tuners (located under the bridge) can easily turn both ways without resistance. -Make sure the violin is made of solid wood. Please kindly note that many inexpensive violins sold online use inferior woods like plywood (laminated). Unfortunately, due to the tension created by the strings onto the bridge, plywood made violins usually break within 6 months.
-Make sure that the person using the violin can easily push down on the strings. If they cannot push down on the string comfortably, either the bridge needs to be recut or the fingerboard nut is too high. -Make sure that the strings are evenly spaced out on the fingerboard nut (located at the top of the violin)
-Make sure that there are no plastic parts
-Make sure that the bridge is curved enough so your bow won't play on two strings at once -Make sure that the strings are equally spaced out on the bridge so your bow won't play on two strings at once
-Make sure the violin is made with inlaid purfling, which is a strip of wood added to the edges of the front and back of the violin to protect the violin from cracks.

If the violin you are looking at does not pass one of these eight points, we would discourage you from buying it. They will end up costing you a lot of money to fix or replace. We highly discourage individuals to buy a violin less than $150 (off sites like eBay or Amazon) because those instruments tend to be made of inferior materials (such a plywood) and are not properly shop adjusted (meaning that you could spend up to $75 at your local shop just setting it up properly). A quality beginner violin outfit is our Mozart Violins Model 12 Classic Violin.

Another mistake we often find is that individuals don't know what size violin to purchase. The size of the violin is how long the violin is. There are four main sizes for violins: 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 and 4/4 size. To figure out what size violin you need, watch our sizing video by going to MozartViolins.com and clicking on Violin Tips.

Why are violin bridges unvarnished?

My guess would be that the cords could possibly slip if the varnish was too smooth. If the wood has more grooves, perhaps it is more likely to hold the cords and help them vibrate.

------

Your guess would be wrong. Varnishing the bridge would slow down the transmission of sound through the hard maple the bridge is made from. Even build up of rosin dust slows down the vibrations.

How much does a Amati violin cost?

It depends on which Amati. Nicholas Amati several thousand dollars. An Andreas Amati a few hundred dollars. A modern Amati less than 100 dollars.

Compendum

What a load of bunk. A real Amati is 300-500 years old and can run into the millions. Yes, some modern copies are mostly worthless, but even many of the copies from the early 1900's can be worth several thousand.

How many Model 1873 Winchesters were made with a 32 inch barrel?

Winchester made a total of 720,609 rifles & carbines between 1873 and 1923. The best source of a breakdown of rifles and carbines would be the Buffalo Bill Winchester Museum in Cody, Wyoming, which houses the Winchester factory collection of firearms and the historical records of Winchester Repeating Arms Co. TexasCharley Winchester '73s were manufactured for 50 years, from 1873 until 1923. A total of 720,609 rifles and carbines were manufactured. The 32" barrel is the rifle barrel. The best source of a breakdown of rifles vs carbines would be the Buffalo Bill Winchester museum in Cody, Wyoming, which houses the complete Winchester factory collection and Winchester's historical records. TexasCharley -- VERY RARE -- Actually, the standard rifle barrel was 24" long. Muskets were 30" long. A 32" barrel would have been a special order, and barrels that long are exceptionally rare. The gun should also have other special order features, sights almost certainly. One one of every 600 rifles produced had a barrel longer than standard, and 26" or 28" was by far the most popular special order length. I would bet no more than a couple hundred on the outside were ever produced with a 32" barrel. That said, any such speciment encountered MUST be checked for authenticity. A factory letter is a MUST, if the information is available. Also, a hands-on evaluation by someone very familiar with that model (knowing how far apart the magazine bracket dovetails should be) is another must. If you have such a rifle, in any kind of decent condition, I would insure for $5000 minimum. sales@countrygunsmith.net

Who first played the violin?

:) The first violin was played by a man name reyno dankwa and he was 14 years old and he made the violin aswell out of wood and string :)

How did the violin originate?

It would have been around 1585 when the violin pattern started to really develop. After that, it became kind of standardized. And it really took off during the Baroque era. The Baroque era started somewhere around 1600. In the very last part of the 1500's, the violin started to emerge. At the time, the instrument most like it was the viol but the violin was still very different. (Currently, the viol is now what one would call the Viola de Gamba.) Instruments in the viol family were more sleek, and plaintive and soft. Then somebody invented an instrument that became more brilliant, with a brighter sound. No one actually knows who invented the first violin, but there were a few people experimenting with patterns to make it. Then, at the beginning of the Baroque era, two things happened: opera and the violin family took off. Through the Baroque era, they become more and more and more popular. This was called the Golden Period for violin making. It was Stradivari's time, and with that, high quality violins were being sold, so composers wrote a lot of music for the violin. Bach, Handel, Corelli, and so many Baroque composers that we don't even know about wrote music for the violin. Most people have never heard of so many composers that have awesome classical music. One of the first great violin makers was Amati. I actually had a teacher who owned an Amati.

What is the cost of the parts of a violin?

Part can cost differently based on the quality, and what type of part. As a musician, I say if you need to find that out, or buy something, you should visit a music store and view the variety of parts :)
