Washington DC is a Federal District, it is not a state. Hence it has no Senators and no congresspersons.

Washington DC does however, have a single non-voting Congressional Delegate who has limited rights and responsibilities in the House of Representatives.

The candidate with the most votes receives all the electoral votes (currently 3) from Washington DC.

According to the 23rd Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, the District of Columbia is allowed to appoint the number of electors to which it would be entitled if it were a state, but never more than the number of electors from the least populous state.

Each of the seven least populous states has the minimum possible number of electors, three. And currently, the population of D.C. exceeds the population of Wyoming.

There were two large groups of cherry trees planted around Washington DC.

The first 3000 trees were sent by the mayor of Tokyo in 1912, and are planted along the Potomac Tidal Basin, including around the Thomas Jefferson Memorial, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial, and the George Mason Memorial.

The second set of 3000 trees was planted in 1965, having been grown in the US from buds provided by Japan. These are the trees around the Washington Monument.

A smaller group of 50 trees from a different stock were planted in West Potomac Park in 1999. This variety of cherry tree was designated a National Treasure of Japan.

The Compromise of 1850 was a bill passed by the Senate in 1850. Senator Henry Clay was the main sponsor of the bill.
