Why does your browser crash when you open many tabs?

Every time you open a new tab in Firefox, you are asking your computer to keep track of another web page. When you open enough of these tabs, your computer begins to run out or RAM (short term memory), and sometimes CPU power - that is, many of these pages are constantly busy doing something, and your computer's processor must handle all of these tasks as well. After a while, when you're out of RAM, your computer will slow down drastically, and the program may be crashed in an effort to save the rest of the system from freezing or even crashing itself.

Short version: Your computer's smart, but its memory is not infinite. Browse responsibly.
