How often should you backup data?

In my opinion, computer backups should be done as frequently as your most important data changes. If you are working on a large important project every day, then you should be backing those files up every day. It depends on how valuable your electronic files are to you, and how stressed you would be if you lost them.

What are the differences between Knoppix and Windows XP?

Windows costs money, but Ubuntu is Linux-based and free. Ubuntu is one of many distributions, or versions, of Linux. Personally, I like Linux better than Windows but Windows programs can't run natively on Linux (and vice versa) so many Linux users still use windows because they need to run certain programs. Compatibility/"emulation" (in quotes because it isn't true emulation) is available in the form of the Linux program WINE (stands for WINE Is Not an Emulator). Linux, in general, is not intended for those who are not experienced with computers, and the sterotypical Linux users are computer programmers. However, several more recent distributions have broken this mold, including Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a very user-friendly distribution, and an excellent place for someone curious about starting with Linux to start. Personally, I prefer the distribution openSuSe, but it requires a slightly higher experience level with Linux to use effectively.

Does Windows XP work on Windows 7?

Most XP drivers from what I've seen so far work great in Windows 7. XP drivers for the most part work much better in Windows 7 than under Vista. Oddly, even older signed XP drivers work fine in Windows 7 without driver signing warnings.

'The instruction 0x9c26531 referenced memory at 0x0b2d90c4. The memory could not be read' and how do you fix it?

I received this error after downloading and installing the Google Toolbar. The error went away after uninstalling the toolbar.

When using Internet Explorer to open Adobe, Word other documents an error message is generated when IE is closed.

The error reads something like:

"Application error. The instruction at "0x7c9105f8" referenced memory at "0x025f0010". The memory could not be "read."

So I guess an obivious solution is to un-install Google toolbar if it is installed.

-- I guess altough the problem got solved in my case by uninstalling the Google toolbar but the problem lies not with the toolbar but with a bug in the homepage of the site.. coz i used to receive the error only after closing specific sites and not all of them. Nevertheless after uninstalling the Google toolbar the problem has been solved

I have had this problem also and have cured it by inactivating one of the 'benign' BHOs (Browser Helper Objects) attached to IE. In my case it was one that came with 'Solid Converter' a PDF conversion program, although it is possible that many poorly written BHOs could cause this.

Download BHO Demon and inactivate all of the BHOs, if the problem goes away then activate each one in turn until you find the varmint and switch it off permanently.

PS Once I had tracked this down I found out that 'Solid Conveter were fully aware of the problem. Pity (as a paying customer) they didn't contact me to point this out, it would have save me many hours of fruitless experimentation.

Kevin.

ANSWER

I got my problem solved.

My application was working fine without any changes to my system which is why I was so confused. Turns out that when my application starts, it auto-opens the last directory that was worked in.

I had taken one of the files in that directory and modified it to print text on the photo using a different application. Therefore my original application which usually starts out with showing thumbnails caused the error pop-up because it is not used to non-photo information being inside of the file.

I renamed the directory that was last worked in by the application and viola… my things now works again.

I was able to single out the faulty file, opened it up with a different application and noticed it was the one I placed the text inside of weeks earlier. I deleted the file to not cause any future problems and now I am as happy as a clam at high tide.

You can determine if it is an add-on by starting internet explorer with no add-ons enabled (the link for that is under "All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools" or else you can go to Start -> run -> and type "iexplore -extoff" (you can ingore the quotes))

If it is an add-on IE will behave ok, then you just have to start IE normally and dissable the add-ons one by one and restarting IE after disabling a few until you nail the bad one. (on the menu bar of internet explorer get Tools -> internet options -> click the Programs Tab -> click the "manage add-ons"). The Non-Microsoft are usually the best place to start.

In my case it was caused by Google Desktop. It wasn't an add-on at all, so I just removed Google Desktop and it was fine. It wasn't that Google Desktop is bad, it's just that it didn't quite make it through the upgrading to IE8.

Possible Reasons that Cause "Memory could not be read or written" Error and How to Fix

1. Invalid Plug-ins

In the process of web browsing, many plug-ins can be secretly installed to the computer system, and they are usually difficult to delete. Those plug-ins can easily lead to conflicts with other applications which directly cause the memory read and write errors.

How to Fix: Remove Invalid plug-ins. Let's take FireFox for example, launch a firefox windows, click "Tools" , select "Add-ons", remove unnecessary add-ons and plug-ins. It is also necessary to use a powerful security software to regularly check whether the system is installed a variety of junk software program and plug-ins, if any, clean them in a timely manner.

2. System Service is malicious modified

Windows Management Instrumentation service is tightly relevant to the memory read and write operation, which if mistakenly modified or stop will definitely lead to memory read/write failure.

How to Fix: Manually repair Windows Management Instrumentation service. Here are the detailed steps:

1) Right click "My Computer" icon on the desktop, select "Manage", then "Computer Management Computer (local)", then "Services and Applications", then "Services", on the right side area, locate Windows Management Instrumentation service, right click and pause the service.

2) Locate C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Repository directory and back up all the files in Repository folder, when the backup is completed, clean Repository folder.

3) Restart your computer, locate Windows Management Instrumentation service as step 1) and right click and start Windows Management Instrumentation service again. This time Windows Management Instrumentation service will be working normally.

3. Memory read/write associated system files are damaged or missing.

If your computer is accidently infected with virus or encountered with some mistaken operation and cause the memory read/write associated system files corrupted or missing. It will not be surprised for you to get the "Memory could not be read or written" error warning.

How to Fix: remove security threats and repair system files.

1) Firstly run a full scan with a powerful security software to remove potential security threats. If antivirus software is not capable to remove the infe

Windows 2000 XP can support up to partitions on a hard drive?

You don't have to format or partition your hard drive as installations will do it for you during setup.

You can install windows 2000 and windows XP and have them both working on one partition without interfering with each other.

First you have to install win 2000, than install win XP "on top" of win 2000.

During installation of win XP ignore all cautions and warnings like "installing multiple operating systems on single partition is not recommended" and other warnings, just keep going, you will see "To continue setup using this partition press C". press C, next screen default is "Leave the current file system intact (no changes)" so agree to that.

After yellow download bar ends computer reboots, at this time during boot DO NOT press any key to boot from CD.

disregard warnings by ms "not supported" in following texts as it means "will work but don't ask us questions"

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306559
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/217210

http://www.microsoft.com/library/errorpages/smarterror.aspx/404?aspxerrorpath=/windows/multiboot.aspx

Beauty of having these two systems on one partition is that in case of problem with virus or if one system stops booting you can boot to the other system to access and save all your data. Smart people were doing it for years and not telling. Try it, you will like it. You can change booting order later, ask Google or MS, they know everything about computers and averything about you thanks to Bill Gates who sold our privacy on silver platter.

You must not install earlier system on top of later system on the same partition because you will get scramble eggs on your hard drive and you will have to start over.

How do you get tabs on your computer?

Step 1

Step 2

Click on Settings in the TAB section. Once in the Internet Options, stay in GENERAL tab and scroll down to TABS and click on SETTINGS.

Step 3

Under Tabbed Browsing Settings, check Enable Quick Tabs, Open New Tabs Next to the Current Tabs, Always Open Pop-ups in New Window and a new tab in current window.

Step 4

That was easy--and now all your web browsing will be in one open window and all ads and other web pages will be shown as tabs, not another open window.

How can you find your registration key on your computer?

It generally comes with the software. If you purchase the software as a download it commonly comes in the form of an e-mail. If you had the key and then lost it, contact the manufacture of the software. If you registered your software most companies can tell you what your product key was. If not they will generally issue you a replacement number right there over the phone or in an e-mail. Don't use keys that another user gives you or that you find online. It's not legal and you can potentially get into some real trouble doing it.

Can you login to your Facebook page if someone else uses your computer with another page?

Yes. If you get on facebook through your cell phone, (which means you are automatically logged on) someone else can get on your page using their cell phone, for sure. I'm not sure if someone else can get on your page using an actual computer while you are on your mobile FB.. but I know two cell phones are possible.

5) go to the settings tab. In there (if all the drivers are installed you should see some options to setup the second monitor. Good luck!

Can you install windows 7 in dell optiplex GX270 having 1gb ram and 3.0 GHZ processor?

NO

Actually, you can (I have), but it's not worth it.

You can install a hacked tiny version of Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron 2500.

But unless you have 512mb of memory, you won't be able to run a single thing without having to wait an extreme amount of time. Even with 512MB (which is the maximum, if you believe the manual provided by Dell) it won't be pretty.
