3 - Pier Beach - By the stones where you build your raft.

Airplane Island:

5 - Skull Rock Jungle - On the ground next to the "Skull Rock".

6 - East River Plains - In front of the quicksand.

Why is North Korea blacked out from Google Earth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

In some cases satellite imagery with missing, incomplete, or unclear map data have been intentionally obscured or blacked out. In other cases Google has been requested by government representatives to black out or blur areas or intentionally use out-of-date imagery for security reasons. Some parts of Korea may be blacked out or blurred for any of these reasons.

See related articles for more details in related links. Many of the blurred areas around the world are listed there.

How do you measure distance in Google Earth?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Here is the way to generate an elevation profile between two points on Earth, which gives you a fair approximation in the altitude differences.

Click Add on the Google Earth Menu bar, and select the Path . Or alternately you'll do the same thing by pressing the combination of Ctrl+Shift+T.

A New path dialogue box appears for you to enter the Name of Path you want to designate and write some description for the same.

Then browse to any location of your interest and click at a place and release the mousse button and go to another place and click and release the mouse button. You'll see a line drawn connecting these two selected points.

Now, click OK on the bottom of the New Path dialogue box, to close it.

On the left side menu go to places and right click on the Path you created and select Show Elevation Profile to see the graph displaying the cross section of the path between the selected two points.

Just mouse over the graph to find the various elevations of the points on the given path from the first point to the second point.

Additionally

If you simply want to measure the distance between two points on the ground (either in a straight line or a path) Google Earth provides a Ruler tool. The Ruler can be found under the Tools menu or in the toolbar (ruler icon). Select the ruler then click on two points on the ground.

How come you can not see people in the google satellite images or maps?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Google imagery is updated often and even if a plane is caught in flight on a given image -the next update for that area will no longer have the plane. Google Earth is more suited for seeing planes in flight especially with its 'Historical Imagery' so you can return to a particular place and time to see a plane caught in flight.

The short answer is that you can see planes in flight on Google Maps and Google Earth. The long answer is that I am sure Google data is pulled from both satellite data and "flown" images. Flown images are taken at lower altitude so commercial planes are likely routed over the one taking the images.

Is google earth a live telecast or satelitte image?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

While Google Earth imagery is not real-time (on average it is three years old), Google is making some layers such as traffic and weather available near real-time updated on an hourly basis.

Also, there is a webcam layer integrated into Google Earth that can show "live" scenes at selected locations -- which is mostly camera photos at fixed locations.

There are also third party data feeds such as real-time flight tracking available.

Can you get older Street View on Google Maps?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Google currently only provides the latest Street View imagery for a given area. There have been requests by many users to provide "historical" imagery for Street View.

Easier said than done since there would be a need for lots of storage for the vast amount of street view imagery. Just keeping the latest high-resolution street view imagery is costly enough. As disks get faster and cheaper over time Google may provide this capability in the future.

First try visiting the Google Maps website and enter your home address in the text box. Next, change the view to satellite or earth. The latter will run 'Google Earth' as a web browser plugin.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Google Earth was first released as Google Earth 3.0 on June 28, 2005.

Where does Google Earth imagery come from?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Google gets its imagery from a variety of sources such as commercial satellite providers such as DigitalGlobe and GeoEye as well as from government and local agencies. Once the imagery is acquired by Google, it next has to be processed into the format and coordinate system of Google Earth's databases. Then it goes through a quality control process and processing system before getting distributed to the Google Earth database servers. This is one reason you usually do not find any imagery newer than about 6 months in Google Earth.

How far can Google Earth zoom in?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The focal length of Google Earth is 31.2 mm.

The focal length f for a given field of view (FOV) is calculated as follows:

f = x/(2*tan(FOV/2))

Usually, x is the diagonal length of the picture and the FOV in photography is called the angle of view (also of the diagonal)

The formula is also valid for the horizontal or the vertical length of the picture.

The horizontal FOV in Google Earth is 60°. For the horizontal length of the film I assumed the usual 36 mm of ordinary film in photo cameras. With these values, the formula gives 31.2 mm.

Google Earth makes available the horizontal and vertical field of view in degrees via a NetworkLink. Click related link to launch dynamically generated KML that dumps all client properties of Google Earth client including the field of view. The horizontal FOV is fixed at 60° but the vertical changes with the aspect ratio of the client window.
