Why do you not have freak shows?
In book 1 of the Cirque du Freak series, Mr. Dalton says that greedy con men stuffed malformed ( weird looking) people into cages and called them freaks. :( They were banned because it wasn't fair for the "freaks". :)
How many circuses are there in the world?
Noone knows the exact number. The estimated number of circuses in Germany are about 400. But bigger countries like the USA only have about a dozen. I think that there are more than 5000 circuses around the world.

What are the easiest contortion poses to practice as a beginner?
It would definitely be the scorpion and the bow and arrow.
The scorpion is when you put one leg up to your head by pulling it up by the arm on the same side and balance, standing on (usually) your dominant leg.
The bow and arrow is when you start out in a scorpion and then you switch your arms*. Then you take the arm that's not holding your leg now and put your wrist to your knee that is up in the air. If you don't look like a bow (your leg and back) and arrow (your arm) then try facing the side or widen your hips.
*For example: if you started out your scorpion by holding your left leg with your left arm, then you would switch it so you would be holding your left leg with your right arm.
Technically and biologically there is nothing stopping you putting a giraffe in your circus. However, legally you'll start to run into problems.
In the US, they're classed as dangerous animals, and even if you get an ownership licence, there are public insurance problems due to the animal's proximity to the audience. The sale and import of giraffes is a legal minefield and let's be honest, most people are impressed enough by lions.

Alliteration is a literary (or "rhetorical") technique that strings a series of words who's initial syllable sounds the same. (fun fact: "syllable sounds the same" is a good example of this technique) To create an alliterative phrase with "circus" you need words that have the same first syllable sound.
