What you're describing is consistent with the symptoms of TMJ (TemporoMandibular Joint Disorder). However, if he didn't diagnose you with TMJ, then something else that can cause what you're dealing with is Stress of any type.

Stress causes us to tighten certain muscles, and the jaw is one of the most common (think gritting your teeth). It's apparent if you feel inside your mouth and can feel the misalignment of your teeth. Using a mouthpiece/mouthguard at night helps keep the jaw from tightening, but ultimately if it's stress related, only removing the source or finding a way to relax will give you any relief.

I've dealt with this for many years, but have learned to deal with it by using relaxation techniques, mental focus, and muscle relaxers when necessary.

TMJ is a specific problem that is well known - never take any one doctor's word for it that you don't have a specific issue. You can read more about TMJ at the Wiki link below.

What is chiropractic?

Doctors of Chiropractic are experts in the field of non-surgical spinal health care. In addition, they are doctors who specialize in the function of the joints and nervous system. Doctors of chiropractic primarily treat neuromusculoskeletal disorders without the use of drugs and surgery.

Chiropractors treat most neuromuskuloskeletal conditions. Common conditions that chiropractors treat are Back pain, neck pain, headache, leg/arm pain, peripheral joint problems (eg: impingments, strains, sprains), peripheral neuropothies (eg: carpal tunnel syndrome, thoracic outlet syndrome), vertigo/dizziness, whiplash, etc. Chiropractors are also well trained in nutrition and exercise, and as such can offer a range of advice/services that may relate to these.

To treat the neuromusculoskeletal conditions, chiropractors use spinal manipulation, physiotherapeutic modalities (cold laser, ultrasound, shockwave, IFC, TENS), deep tissue massage (ART-like), exercise (for rehabilitation and prevention), dietary advice, lifestyle advice, etc.

Their primary treatment, and what they are best known for, spinal manipulation, is used to induce motion into restricted joints, calm spastic musculature, induce neural reflexes that can result in global short-term pain relief, etc.

Can doctors work in different countries other than their own country?

Doctors wishing to practice outside of their own country of origin generally belong to organizations such as the World Health Organization, United Nations, Doctors Without Borders, and so forth. A doctor wishing to work outside a country other than that in which they trained would have to satisfy the new country that their qualifications were equal. There is freedom of movement throughout the EU and there are many doctors in the UK from other English speaking countries. Many British doctors also go to other English speaking countries including the US.

What does the medical abbreviation MD mean?

MD in medical terms typically means Medical Doctor. It could also mean Muscular Dystrophy or Medical Department. If the abbreviation is actually capital "M", small "d" as in Md, it would mean mendelevium, which is an artificially produced or "synthetic" radioactive element.

It stands for the latin Medicenæ Doctor, meaning Doctor of Medicine. It is a doctoral degree similar to Ph.D.(Doctor of Philosophy) but for physicians. Although the requirements for being granted one differ depending on the country.

How long does a verbal order have to be signed by the ordering physician?

Typically I have heard 48hrs on a verbal or phone order. The issue arrises when no signature is obtained. An order, whether paper, verbal or even written on a napkin is acceptable without that doctors signature. Obviousy if the date of the signature is over 30 days it starts to look bad on both the nurse, the agency and espeically the doctor since he/she ultimately approved the order and is thus responsible for signing behind themselves. I have found many times that physicians aren't as "up to speed" on this area as they should be. Also, agents signing behind a doctor is still not acceptable. Only a doctors signature is valid; and in Home Health not even an NP or PA can sign their own orders thus requiring a co-signature from their supervisors.
