The engine speed is one as most alternators are connected to the engine via a vee belt.

this is a fun one you have to remove the power steering pump bolts and swing it out of the way to allow enough space to slide out the alternator. of course that is after you support and tilt the engine so you can get the alternator bolts out to. dont forget to disconnect the ground wire from the battery first. not a hard job just has to be a certain way

Start the engine and test the voltage at the battery posts with a voltmeter. If you get a reading of 13.5 to 16 volts DC then the alternator is more than likely good. Charge the battery fully and then have it tested at any auto parts store. They will test if for free.

I've have never heard of an Is400, but if it is wired correctly it should have a fuse.

There is no set mielage. It depends on the manufacturers recommendations and the conditions under which the engine is working

To replace an alternator on a 2002 Jaguar van den plas 4.0 simply refer to the user manual.

Check the voltage regulator.

Check fuse and wiring.

They can if the bearings are bad but most of the time they will make no sound even though they are bad. Have it tested at any auto parts store if you suspect it it bad.

Some have a 3 wire set up. Some a single wire. I just did my 1st one tonight and it was very simple. Worked 1st try and thats not usualy my luck. Very important to disconnect the (-) negative wire from the battery before starting. It could damage the new one and void any warranty.....Good luck

Remove the nagative cable from the battery(as to not get shocked), remove both the top and bottem bolts. The bottem one is long and is also larger and has no threads in the middle and has a tendancy to get stuck easily. Just keep losening it and pull it out while supporting the alternator. Carfully remove the harnesses and you're done!

Older vehicle (non-computer, uses points): With engine running, remove either lead from the battery (taking it out of the circut). If the engine quits, it needs a battery, if not, do diagnostics on the alternator.

Take it to a mechanic....

use a 12 mm extended ratchet to loosen the accessory belt tensioner (remove belt)

Unbolt the alternator from the engine chassis and unplug the positive and negative terminals.

New Alternator Costs about $200, New Starter Costs the Same.

Sometimes with these Marks when you change either the battery or alternator the other will go out so a lot of places change out both at the same time, also the positive cable can be at fault and it's a pain to change out.

I had the same problem with a Lebaron I had. It turned out to be a wiring problem. Luckily there's really no part cost to fix this problem, just labor in tracking down the bad connection.

You should check to see if you are getting spark at the wires,and fuel pressure first.

Bad diodes in the alternator can cause the battery to go dead when the car is off. The diode bridge (six diodes) is directly connected to the battery, and is used to convert three phase delta AC from the alternator's stator to DC for the battery. Normally, if the engine is not running, the diodes are reverse biased and do not conduct current. If one of the high side diodes is shorted then the diode trio (another set of three diodes supplying the regulator/rotor) could conduct and drain the battery. Often, a diode failure is a short or an open. A short in a high side diode along with a short in a low side diode would result in high current from the battery, and that would probably blow the fusible link. An open would result in poor performance of the alternator.

Hi, I am certainly not an expert but I do have a 87 Maxima ( vg30e engine ) and to gat at that alt. you are best to take off the pass front tire then the plastic shield on the fender and the area opens up to you. Very snug quarters on the Max. don't know for sure about the Stanza. I think they have a 4 cyl.?

There are only two bolts. Loosen both, so that you can get the belt off. Then take them all the way out, and the thing'll fall right out, pretty simple.

To remove the alternator, remove the top bolt that tensions the belt. Remove the wiring. One is a plug and the other is with a nut. The last thing is to undo the bottom nut from the side closest to the exhaust under the alternator. This bolt has to be totally removed by pulling it out from the belt side. The alternetor will then lift out. After you have done this once you should be able to change one in about half an hour maximum.

First, remove the negative battery cable. Then remove the wires off of the alternator then the bolts that hold it on and then remove the alternator. The schematic for the serpentine belt should be on the fan shroud. If not, draw one before removing it. Don't rely on memory.

disconnect neg.battery cable. disconnect wires from alternator. loosen pivot and lock bolts. detatch drive belt. remove pivot and lock bolts from the bracket. installation is reverse of these steps.
