Most antibiotics do not adversely react with alcohol. This is actually an old wives tail dating back to WWII when penicillin was heavily used but in short supply. Soldiers were told that they couldn't drink on the antibiotics in an attempt to keep them sober so that they wouldn't become inebriated and have intercourse with prostitutes, thus catching venereal diseases that would require antibiotic therapy.

Don't have sexual in course during treatment. Amoxicillin with clavulonic acid is "Augmentin" and an antibiotic. All antibiotics cause GI upset (nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, indigestion) - with this one, you should have a good meal in your stomach before taking the medicine. Also when you are taking antibiotics, it helps to eat yogurt daily, or take Lactinex or some other brand of live bacteria tablets in order to prevent a lot of the diarrhea caused by the antibiotic killing off the "good" bacteria that live in your gut and help you digest food. There are numerous more specific side effects to this drug including the peeling of skins on your fingertips and toes.

Yes, absolutely. They are totally different drugs. Amoxicillin is a penicillin/antibiotic, and Calpol is the brand name for Paracetamol, which is an analgesic (pain relief) and anti-pyretic (reduces fever). It is advisable in fact to use both, particularly in a child of that age, who is susceptible to febrile convulsions if a fever is left untreated (assuming that is what you are using the Calpol for).

I can only tell you what happened to me. In May of 2009 I had an upper respiratory infection including severe laryngitis. My Dr prescribed Tamiflu. Note that at this point in time the world was going through the Asian Swine flu scare. I took it for 3 or 4 days without incident. After this initial period, I called my Dr to tell him that I was coughing up green phlegm. I had always been under the assumption that green phlegm was a sign of a bacterial infection. My Dr apparently agreed with that assessment, because he ADDED Augmentin 875 mg to my medications. Please note, I had taken Augmentin many times over many years with no problem.

Within a day, I experienced a SEVERE reaction. Both of my hands swelled up, and were rendered unusable. The pain was excruciating. The first thumb joint where the thumb connects to the hand was the center of the pain. I could not button my shirt, hold a pen, turn a key, open a door, etc. The pharmacist wisely advised me to stop taking both medications immediately, which I did. The pain lasted for over a week. Actually as I recall, the pain took almost a month to entirely go away.

After the the first 4 days I did go toI went to another Dr- an ENT specialist who prescribed a cortisone type drug in a gradually descending dose pack that I don't recall the name of- something like methyl- pred- something or other, but it cured me in short order. In short, Tamiflu plus Augmentin was NOT ok for me.

If unsure try 500mg of panadol first and see if that helps, further amounts will depend on age and body weight.

Of course it all depends on your dependence/tolerance level of Darvocet dosage that you're taking. If you've been taking it for some time, then it might not be as bad. It depends on what antibiotic you have taken too much of and what other disease states you have (renal insufficiency, diabetes, pt receiving warfarin, etc). If you have just taken an extra pill, it is unlikely that you will experience any adverse effects from it unless you have a condition that pre-disposes you to being sensitive to the side effects of antibiotics. Always try to take your antibiotic as directed. More than ordered is not better. In most cases, it is just a waste. You get the germ-killing effect at dose x and anything more does not produce any better or quicker results. Taking more than directed just causes you to run out too soon. There are some bugs out there such as Strep A that causes strep throat that you really need to take the antibiotics for the full 10 day course or it will come back on you.
