Have you tried just inserting the key in the driver side door and turning it? That's how you open the door with a key when the key battery is dead.

Yes, easy. It happened to me last year. Simply stick a long flat screwdriver through the kidney grills and push the locking plate. You need to do it for both latches. That's it, now you know how to open your bonnet when the cable is broken.

remove the transmission pan cover ..on the passenger side of the transmission there is a drain plug.... you must pump it in...

Take the black plastic weather cap off by unsnapping it at the top and pushing back. If the lamp is on the passenger side, remove the air filter housing by unsnapping the 4 retaining snaps, removing the filter, and removing the bolt at the rear of the housing. Loosen the hose clamp from the fresh air intake. Remove the filter housing. At the back of the headlamp element is a wire clip, pivot it in and up. Remove the wire from the element and replace the element. Reverse the process.

i had this same problem with my 740il 1997 and its not the fuse box under the hood but it is the fuse box in the trunk in the same compartment as the battery storage it is behind the cloth siding you just pull that down and there is the fuse box that has the cigarette lighter in it.

If you want to check the fluid level there are 2 options. Either your trans will have a dipstick or it will be sealed. If it has a dipstick warm the car up and park on a level surface. Shift through all gears and check the dipstick with the engine running car in park. If there is no dipstick it is more complicated. There is a drain plug somewhere on the side that will drain out any excess fluid.

All German Manufacturers (ZF?)are doing the latter described above i.e. sealed for life/death. Steps to check ATF:

1. Lift up car on jacks

2. locate fill plug on tranny bay

3. unscrew and remove

4. if oil is level with the bottom of the hole, then it is full

5. if not, add oil with a pump(can find at autozone or csk for like 10 bucks)

6. screw plug back on and you're done

(oh yeah, oil will most likely be Dexron III if car is from the 90s)

the hood must be open to get to two clips that hold the head light assy in place on the back side of rad core support pull them up then light assy will tilt fwd then you unplug the wire to the light you want to replace install in the rev order

If all the regular things such as no gas, new spark plugs, etc. has been checked, chances are a faulty fuel injector is to blame. My 740 had that problem.
