As its name suggests, the Border Collie originated from the borders of England and Scotland. Because of their intelligence, stamina and hard-working personality, Borders have been trained to work as sheepdogs. These active dogs were mainly bred for working ability instead of its appearance. It sounds as though you are talking about a band of muscle/cartilage that most bordies have across their chests. It protects them from being kicked by sheep when hearding. Most working bordies or their offspring have this.

He has a little hallway (entrance) of his own where he asks to relax or where he sleeps at night (I do not want passers-by to harm him in any manner even by giving him unknown food, for instance)
