BP Oil Spill

The BP oil spill, also known as the Deepwater Horizon spill, occurred in late April 2010 when a oil well exploded in the Gulf of Mexico and killed 11 people. The disastrous spill gushed millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf and is considered an environmental catastrophe and one of the worst offshore oil spills in U.S. history.

How is mud circulated in drilling operation?

Mud is pumped down the drill pipe, and it flows through the bit, then up the annulus between the drill pipe and formation. Since mud carries rock fragments and possibly contains gas, it must be processed before being pumped down the drill pipe. Also, there may be some losses, so a make up supply of mud must always be available.

Did the BP oil spill in the Mexican Gulf harm Louisiana?

Yes, the BP oil spill of April 20, 2010 in the Mexican Gulf harmed Louisianans and their state. The initial, explosive event took place about 41 miles [66 kilometers] off the state's southeastern coast. Louisianans are dealing with the psychological stress of knowing that 17 employees were injured and that 11 platform workers died off their coastline. They also are dealing with the economic challenges of the spill's disruption of regular and routine transportation, sea and seaside activities on personal and professional levels, and standard business and environmental interactions.

How did BP Oil get its start?

BP was a result of a merger in 1998, the world's largest between industrial companies. William Knox D'Arcy founded BP in the early 1900s. D'Arcy was convinced (and eventually proven right) that there were large oil deposits in Iran (then Persia).

How can oil companies reduce their production times?

I am not sure what you are asking. Oil companies try to reduce their production down time. Is that your question?

On a production platform, down time is reduced through routine maintenance. For example, if a pipeline is transporting oil with a high wax content, a "pig" or pipeline scapper may be put through the well to make sure there is no wax buildup. Alternatively, the pipeline may be insulated.

Also, when a platform is shutdown for maintanence, there may be several repair or replacement jobs done, even ones that may not be necessary for years to come. Onshore, a well or gather center may be shutin for a short period to perform repairs. Offshore, any routine shut in of a platform is very well planned to minimize lost production.

I hope this answers your question. If I have not understood your question, please resubmit it in a different form.

Who makes oil spills happen?

Their is no single "person" who makes oil spills happen. They typically tend to happen due to overall human error, poor planing, old or outdated equipment, nature, natural disasters, and "acts of god" which is coined by insurance companies as "events outside of human control." Typically when an oil spill happens the company that either owns the oil or the delivery company-if a third party-is to blame for the spill.

Can you use JB Weld to stop an oil leak?

I used it on the ruptured seam of a motorbike petrol tank a few years and its still holding. I dare say it'd work just as well if both surfaces are cleaned first.

I used it to stop a leak in the transfer case to drive shaft on a 92 Eagle Talon.

How long is the oil spill in Gulf of Mexico going to last?

Tough answer, the flow of oil coming into the gulf could be stopped soon. The residual effect it will play will be for many many years. Think about it, there is 4 inches of muck oil washing up on beaches and drying out in the sun, stinking up the beaches, flowing over birds that are skimming the top looking for food. Ever walk into a fish market and smell fish that are for sale as your walking through the seafood section? Pretty nasty, huh? Imagine that smell multiplied by thousands for the next decade. Answer to your question, short version, a long time!!

Your distributor is leaking oil where can it be coming from because you've try to change the distributor but it still leaking?

This could also be caused by a clogged PCV system which is common on these cars especially the 7mge. Pull the oil fill cap with the engine running. If you have a lot of pressure comming out you probably have what is called "blowby". If you have much blowby it will push oil out of anyplace that doesn't have a positive seal, that could include the distributor shaft. If you have that much blowby, the rings are worn and the only option is to rebuild or replace the engnine.

What caused the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill?

an explosion on board.
The oil line on the seafloor broke somehow. What happened exactly is still being determined.
The exact cause is unknown. There has been considerable speculation that the cement job performed prior to the blow out contributed to the blow out. Also, the blow out preventers (the "failsafe" measure) failed to actuate. It is still unknown if the accident was caused by human or mechanical reasons.

Why would a 1992 ford explorer 4.0 motor oil be runny and smell like gas?

It is contaminated with fuel. Change the oil and filter immediately. Take the vehicle to a professional and have them find out why you have fuel in your crankcase. Can be a leaking injector, faulty fuel pressure regulator, misfiring plug, or overly rich fuel/air mixture.

How does the Mexican Gulf oil spill affect Mexico?

Mexico isn't affected as directly and immediately as Louisiana and the other coastal states of the United States of America. Specifically, the disastrous chain of events began about 41 miles [66 kilometers] off the southeastern coastline of Louisiana. But the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico, the islands of the Caribbean, and the waters of both bodies are important habitats for wildlife and particularly for migratory birds. So the cultures, the economies, the ecotourism and tourism industries, and the environment of the entire area is impacted to lesser and greater degrees.

Effects still are being evaluated in areas immediate to and distant from the oil spill of April 20, 2010. They still are being evaluated in both the short- and the long-term.
