He might be an ass. He may have said something weeks ago. Knowing nothing about the relationship, it's impossible to say what his feelings are. You probably know the answer if you are willing to look for it and deal with it. Hard to accept, but you are probably better off without him. May hurt, but that's the chance we take when we get involved with someone.

I think the best thing to do is allow him to have the time to see what's happening to him right now and then take him out to keep his mind off the breakup. You could take him to a movie, park, out to eat etc., there are plenty of things to do when someone has gone through a breakup. Remember though to attempt to keep his mind off things.
