You are constructing a chain link fence you have a 4 feet gate how far apart do you place the posts for the gate?

It is not an exact science. When I built mine I measured from where the post would be sitting on the hinge side to where I needed the post to sit so that the gate closer would hit it right. There are several different kinds of locking closers available and it depends on the type that you have. If it is a tad bit long that it ok bc usually you can adjust it somewhat. That is how I did it anyway and it turned out fine. You just dont what it too short then you wont be able to fit the gate. I assembled the gate first then took the measurements. Hope this helps you. Good luck.

Is WPA2 slowing internet connection?

All security mechanisms do. It's better to sacrifice couple percents of your bandwidth for secure connection especially if the network is used to access bank accounts, business and so on.

How do you know if you have problems in your networks adapter?

Most adapters have a self-diagnostic feature. You might find it, if you click on the adapter in your device manager.

Can you connect a wireless router to a wireless DSL modem?

I set up Peplink at work and it works great combining multiple internet sources.

From there site:

Increase your bandwidth at anytime. Peplink Balance multi-WAN routers give you the ability to transparently connect new low-cost Internet links, such as DSL, Cable, 3G Wireless to your existing network. Giving you a highly reliable, fast Internet.

Network traffic is distributed to different Internet links to achieve an overall increase of network speed.

What is a cable modem?

Cable modems are a kind of device that you hook up to your computer that is used to deliver broadband acess in the form of cable internet to your computer. It allows you to surf the web.

How does a wireless network signal travel?

A wireless network signal travels through the use of radio waves. It is capable of travelling great distances in the open or shorter distances when penetrating walls and objects.

Why you need sim card?

Without a sim card a phone will not be able to cornet to a telephone network. The sim card identifies you/your phone to the network provider, provides you with your telephone's unique number (so people can call you) and links you to your account so that you can be charged for the use you make of the telephone network.

If you use a router to network a cable modem do you lose connection speed since you are using multiple PC's?

I would imagine you would see a decrease in performance if you had several computers all online requesting data at once, but most small home networks wouldn't even notice another couple of users surfing around.

yes i belive.

Do you have to have a N modem for a wireless N router?

There is no such thing as N modem. N is a type of wireless network. When modems are usually associated with wired connection. Getting back to the answer, yes you can connect N type wireless router to virtually any modem (there are some exceptions).

What can a wireless accesss point use to restrict devices that can connect to it?

There are different things you can use to restrict access a wireless access point.

First one is to use so called black/white lists. Black list forbids certain MAC address to access the wireless access point everybody else is fine. White list allows only certain MAC address to access the wireless access point. Sometimes it's called MAC filter.

Second thing you can use is a wireless password. It allows to connect to your network only if you know the password. You should use WPA at least.

Do you hook the mac to the internet modem or to the wireless router versus the PC to the modem?

MAC/PC/printer to router. Router to modem. Modem to wall/internet. Wired or wireless router is optional, same principle.

How do you hook up a wireless router to a non wirless router and the modem?

I know how to hook up a router you just have to

Step 1:put the internet wire on the modem and the router

Step 2: look at your both routers and connect the internet wire to the COMPUTER 1

Why WiFi is slower than wired connection?

Wireless transfer uses radio signals and is always slower than wired transfer.
When you use cable, the application (say a router) has the entire cable to itself - other applications (say a stereo) will use a different cable, and the signals in different cables do not interfere with each other.
When sending through air, the application must share the air space with radio, television, cell phones, other wireless routers (where I live there is about a dozen WiFi networks within range) and electronic noise from fridges, microwave ovens and whatnot.

The net effect is that a wireless transmission can only use a tiny slice of the radio spectrum to avoid collision with everything else that is also using radio waves.
A cable transmission, on the other hand, can use almost the entire spectrum without worrying about collision with signals in other cables.

So cable transmissions will always have an edge in bandwidth: Whatever scheme is invented to stuff more data into less wireless spectrum could equally well be used for cable transmissions, and cable has more available spectrum to begin with.

Can you view your router log?

It's purely depends on your router. Some more expensive routers allow to do such stuff. While cheaper counterparts are not capable of such things.

What Speed at which computer modem can transmit information over phone line?

Actually, what LewisMiller said is not completely accurate. While dial-up modems are capable of 56Kbps, the traditional phone line is capable of only 53Kbps. Thus, the download speed is actually only a maximum of 53Kbps, often lower due to noise on the lines or other issues. Back in the day when I used dial-up, most often my US Robotics Sportster saw speeds of 33.6Kbps to 48Kbps. Further, upload speed is generally slower than the 53Kbps speed maximum: most frequently, the upload speed is limited to 33.6Kbps, sometimes only 28.8Kbps (depending on the capabilities of the modems at both ends of the dial-up connection).

As for DSL, a standard ADSL service is actually 1.5Mbps, not 112Kbps, and the lowest "fractional DSL" speed I have encountered is 256Kbps. Years ago, there was another service called ISDN that was most often offered in 64Kbps and 128Kbps speeds but it was not widely adopted, especially since cable modems and DSL services started making headway around the same time. It may be of this service that LewisMiller may have been thinking.

Do you have to use both a modem and a router together?

A cable internet customer can use just a modem if they are connecting a single device to the Internet, such as a desktop computer. Many customers now have a plurality of devices they would like to connect to the Internet at once, such as video game consoles, televisions, media centers, laptops, tablets, computers, and phones. In this case, a device that operates as a router is necessary.

The modem provides connectivity for a single device to the Internet, while the router provides a network to many devices in the same area; the combination of the two allows many devices to access the Internet at the same time. Cable operators may now provide a single device that operates as a modem and a router, in which case, only one device is necessary, since it fulfills both roles at once. Technically, the customer still has a modem and a router, but it is housed in a single device, reducing power usage and providing a smaller footprint.

How do you switch the cable tv connection from one line in your home to another?

The most common problem in this kind of sharing is both TV's will be receiving the same signal from the cable tv box, meaning u can only watch 1 channel at a time on the same TVs, and it depends on the cable tv box. However, a splitter can solve the problem only if there is another similar cable tv box for the other tv. The line has to be " Y " split before it gets into the boxes.

Can WPA Passwords for wireless internet have spaces?

WPA passwords are 8-63 characters including spaces and other characters.

How do you enter the set up of your modem?

If you are using a Windows based PC, open a command prompt by going to Start, Run (or press the Windows key and the "R" key at the same time) and then type cmd and press Enter.

In the black window type ipconfig and press Enter. In the results that appear on your screen, look for a line that says "Default Gateway". Type your default gateway into a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. For example, my default gateway is 192.168.0.1 so in IE I type 192.168.0.1 in the address bar and press enter. Don't worry about typing http:// or www first, it will automatically correct the address when you press enter.
