Which one should I get a canary or parakeet?

I definetly reccmmend a cockatiel because I have had both of them and the cockatiel seems much more friendly and energetic and shows its love for humans. Plus, you can teach them to speak. A parakeet just wont do any of that.

Yes, Cockatiels ARE the best choice of bird, in my opinion.

How do you look after a canary?

To train you canary, you need to try to let him/her know your not going to harm them. And if you are trying to get the to stand on your hand to nurse them, you slowly move your hand towards it and wait for about 10-15 seconds and then if he/she flies off you move your hand towards it. If your bird doesn't want to corporate try to tell it your the boss ( without hurting or frighting it too much.

Sorry if this doesn't help you. Have fun :)

What is meant by canary in a goldmine?

Something that gives a early warning of greater damage to come. Miners used to--and maybe in some places still do--take a bird underground to detect poison gas. The bird would die first, and if the humans see the bird dead, they know to get out of the mine.

This is sometimes used as a figure of speech for other things, as watching the economy of a small country that is very dependent on a particular resource. If that small country goes bankrupt, it could be a warning to larger economies that are also dependent on the same resource.

What is the average lifespan of a canary?

The life expectancy of any bird (or animal) depends on how well the bird/animal is cared for during its lifetime and the bird's genetic makeup. A sickly bird, one that is bred a lot, one that isn't fed properly, one that doesn't get proper exercise, etc., won't live as long as one that is cared for well.
The average life span of a bred female canary is 5 - 6 years and for a male canary, up to 10 years

How do you make a canary nest?

I would first like to extend my deepest condolences regarding the loss of your canary. I have had MANY friends throughout my life that have accidentally left the cage door open. NONE of them EVER came back. Perhaps, yours will be different. I suppose we can hope for the best. The ONLY way to attract your canary is to have fostered a relationship in which it would not want to leave in the first place. For all we know, it has found it's natural home already. Chin up, and good luck.

What happens when you feed a canary red peppers?

They will love you! Birds are nuts about hot peppers. They love the flesh and the seeds and show no effect of the capsaicin. There are no ill effects to the bird. Many people add the seeds to their bird seed in the feeders for wild birds, too.

How do you tame a canary?

Hi!

Well, i'm no canary training expert, but'll try to help you.

First of all it depends on the canary. I don't think all canaries can be tamed, so don't blame yourself.

Next is patience and work.

A few things i did/do:

- first make sure they're healthy, don't give them food for several days at once, try to give food per day. They also like to bathe. I place a cover over the cage at night so it gets at least 11 hours sleep.

- They need to get used to your presence and not be afraid of you.

- Place your hand near the cage, then in the cage, and wait. Let them calm down. Build it slowly, let them get used to your hand.

-I always feed him his snacks (fruit or bread etc) at the exact same place through the bars (near a stick). When doing this, i'll hold on to the snack until they take it! This will teach them to take food out of your hand. It may take a while though.

- Catching them will also make them used to being touched, but they never like it so don't overdo it.

- I also let the bird fly, it's good for them, they need the exercise. Most of the time he will return to his cage automatically.

- when he is free he's agressive, but not realy affraid, but doesn't like to be touched. With the help of food you can lure him and they are already used to eating out of your hand. The next step is the finger. He wil attack my finger and when placed against his belly he will jump on it. but he never stays on for long.

Hope this helps,

Good luck!

What is the dirty canary song?

Oh honey, the "Dirty Canary" song is just a figment of your imagination. I don't know what kind of shady tunes you're listening to, but there's no such thing as a dirty canary song. Maybe stick to classics like "Fly Me to the Moon" instead of whatever nonsense you're trying to find.
