From what I've seen at other candy websites, molded chocolate candies were being made in the early 1800s, particularly Easter Eggs. I also have seen various histories of the candy cane that says peppermint sticks have been around for over 600 years; the sticks were transformed into canes in the late 1600s, and in early 1900s the red stripe was added. I'm sure other hard candies, such as lemon drops and maple syrup candy are pre-1800s, and the lollipop was first made in 1780. Caramel candies were also created relatively early on, perhaps as early as 1650, but definitely common in the 1800s. In books based on the 1800 time period they do talk about buying candy for small amounts of money. It was probably somewhat a pound for 50 cent/a dollar.
