Rat live an average a 3-4 years. When I use to breed them I did have on live for about 4.5 years (big old male, and what a good friend he was).

Another interesting fact about rats is that they are the only member of the rodent family smart enough to not bite you (Stressed point: if hand raised. aka handled often) even if you smell like food. (make sure to feed them regularly)

I don't know about for Rattus Rattus (roof rat or black rat), but Rattus Norvegicus (the brown rat) can have up to twenty-two, but twelve is a more likely number. Same applies to pet rats, as they are also Rattus Norvegicus, just domesticated.

If the smell is in a litter box, thoroughly empty and clean the cat box. Use soap, water, and then let it soak in a bleach solution for a time. Rinse. Use a good quality multi-cat clumping litter. If the house smells, use a white vinegar solution to wash the walls and floors. If the cats have been using a place on carpet, the smell may remain until you replace the carpet. Once the house smells good again, clear the cat box daily, putting the debris into an outside trash can.

No; I once had a white mouse that had black eyes. USUALLY white mice have red eyes, because the gene for red eyes and white fur is on the same chromosome. Mice aren't necessarily disease ridden animals or anything. Hantavirus is one disease you can get from wild deer mice mainly, however it is fairly rare. Ingesting mouse feces would likely get you ill as well. People give mice a bad rep but if you're careful, you are more likely to get sick from your cat than a single mouse living in your home.

You could get sick, however, that isn't necessarily always the case. Hantavirus is a serious lung illness caused by exposure to infected mouse droppings, however it is not all that common..
