70 gallons means nothing - it's the physical dimensionsthat are more important. The lizard needs at least the length of its body (at adult size) for the longest side of the tank. You also have to take into consideration whether the monitor is an arboreal species (and would therefore need a high enclosure)
Incidentally - old fish-tanks do NOT make good vivaria for reptiles. Being of all glass construction - they do not hold the temperature generated by the heating system - and the thermostat (and heat source) have to 'work overtime' in order to maintain the desired range. 90% of heat generated will be lost through the glass - as opposed to around 5% in a purpose-built wooden vivarium.

Like a mythical dragon, tortoises tend to hatch when they think the occasion is right, especially when the planets align, a suitable caretaker is nearby, or on a blue moon. If the tortoise is retarded (like the majority of them), then it will probably hatch whenever it feels like coming out of it's little shell. Unfortunetly, the stupid human caretakers will think that the eggs are duds and will dispose of the eggs before they want to hatch.
They mostly eat mice and birds, but they will eat insects also.

And the last sign is that if the tail is long and thin, then it is a female, but if it is more fat and short, then it would be a male. If these are mixed and you are still unsure, I would take a nip down to your vets and get them checked out.

What you should do, is just be paitent and wait. eventualy, the thing your feeding your snapper will die,(if not already dead), or the snapper will eat it. while i writing this, I'm looking ant my snapper and a tadpole i just cought for him , and i am dying to see how he'll eat it or how he'll kill it. All he's doing is sitting on top of it. BORING!!!!!

As an example i had a dream of going to the shops but then relizing my younger brother is lost. I didnt mention anything to my parents and walked off into the croud alone. A pirate took me away and was about to chop off my head.
That dream was telling me not to walk off alone and that my fears are looosing my younger brother and i hate pirates.
