Cat Maintenance

Cat maintenance focuses on the hair and claws of the cat. Combing a cat’s fur is an excellent way of getting rid of hair balls and checking for fleas. One should provide a scratching post to keep the cat's nails trimmed.

Can a 42 day old kitten be pregnant?

no then the kitten is a little over 5 weeks. The average female cat might start to go into heat at 8 months, but every cat is different.

Should you give your cat baths when he is dirty?

Cats clean themselves. Giving them a bath once in a long while shouldn't physically hurt them in any way, but could hurt your relationship with your cat (because of their dislike of water). Flea baths are fine if your cat has fleas, and if your cat gets into something nasty (rotten eggs, dead animals, etc.) then a bath would be fine.

But you should really leave simple dirt cleaning up to the cat. They have a comb built into their tongue for a reason : )

Can you give cat flu to other cats?

No. Cat flu can only infect cats. Cat flu, like a human cold, is contagious, so cat flu can spread quickly in a multi-cat household. If your cat starts sneezing, become lethargic, off its food, has mucus coming from its eyes or nose you should take them to the vet & have them checked out. Most vets will often prescribe a week-long dose of antibiotics. Never use your own medicine on your pet.

How long does it take for a shaved cat to regrow fur?

how long do you think it takes for a shaved cat to regrow it's fur? hmmm

What if your cat hasent gotten its flee treatment and then laid in your bed?

If it doesn't have fleas, nothing. If it does, there is a possibility it would spread to the bed but fleas prefer living things so they can remain on the cat. But if the cat has fleas and it is left unchecked, there is a chance the house with become infested with fleas -- especially if there is a lot of carpeting and soft furniture. Other animals increase the speed of infestation.

What can you do to help a stray cat that looks under weight and is caring for kittens that are only a week old?

The best thing you can do for it is to take it in. Keep it in a room separate from the rest of the house, and give it a box or the like that it can sleep in. Feed it both canned and dry food, preferably the kind that is meant for kittens. However, if you cannot keep it in your house for any length of time, then I would suggest putting out a structure it can sleep in and setting out food and water. That is all you can do for it with out providing shelter. But above all, be sure not to take it to a shelter that euthanizes. Its kittens will be put down immediately and chances are the mother will be, too. There are no such things as "low-kill" shelters, despite what they may say. I would highly recommend bringing the cat to a rescue (also called a no-kill shelter) and turning it in. They can be trusted.

What do you do if your CatGenie stinks?

You should consult the instructions that came with the CatGenie litter box system. You may need to replace the SaniSolution cartridge or even the washable granules.

Will giving a fat cat a bath hurt him if he hasn't had one since he was a kitten?

no. Just because cats hate water and will tend to squirm and meow, even if they are fat, it is not actually hurting them.

Are there harnesses for panic stricken cats to trim their nails?

As far as I know, no. However, you can try wrapping the cat up in a towel -- sort of like a kitty-kat straightjacket -- to keep it from scrambling around and wriggling away from you.

If this doesn't work, try contacting your vet. Some veterinary practices provide nail-clipping services. At my vet's office, they give free nail-clippings every Thursday afternoon. My cats are horrible about getting their nails clipped -- my brother even tried helping me one time, and the two of us together couldn't do it. So I just leave it up to the veterinary assistants.

Where do cats live?

There and loads of differing species of felines, so stating where every species lives is impossible without delving deep into detailed information. House cat species are aptly named because their adaptation is suitable for homes. Wild cats, meanwhile, are too aptly named because of their adaptation to hills, mountains and alternative outdoor areas, including jungles and rainforests.

Why is there white stuff in your cat's paws?

Your Cat has given birth to five kittens is it safe to keep one in the same house as her?

Yes, it is totally safe, and it is likely the two of them will have a closer bond than the mother would have with a different cat.

But one thing to note: cats do not have the type of memory that humans do to remember that the cat they are living with is their mother, their son, etc..., so they will forget in a few months.

Should you feed your neighbors cat if it looks unhealthy?

I would suggest putting some food out for it, there is no reason for an animal to suffer.

Can a grown cat eat kitten replacement formula?

It can, but it's not the best food for it. Different types of cat food are geared towards different stages in a cat's growth. Kitten food is higher in fat than adult cat food.

Can a 12 week old kitten spray?

A twelve week old kitten will in no way be able to spray. At such an age the kitten is comparable to a young child. Kittens usually reach sexual maturity around five to seven months old, and should ideally be spayed before six months old to avoid spraying and other possible problems developing.

Can you use dog shampoo on a cat?

No, you really shouldn't and cats don't generally need to be bathed. If your cat has a mess at the back end then you have no choice or if they have fallen into something then using Oatmeal dog shampoo is about the best product. Unless your cat actually needs to be bathed then don't bathe them. Most cats are good groomers and they need the essential oils in their skin. Some people that 'show' their cats may bathe them.

If your long-haired cat gets more fur-balls as the weather gets hotter can clipping his fur shorter help?

No, the fur is shedding as it gets warmer, and though clipping it shorter may lessen the size of the hairballs, they will continue to shed so it really wont make much difference.

How much a 1 year old cat should eat a day?

How do cats get their food?

When its a wild cat or a pet cat that has access to outside, they will often hunt small animals such as birds, mice and other small rodents, frogs and insects. They might even scavenge food from bins, parks and even enter other homes if cat food is in easy reach.

For most pet cats, however, food is usually bought for them by their owners.

How do you clean dried cat feces off of tile floors?

Spray the dried cat feces with a cleaner such as 409 or Lysol. Let it sit for a moment to fully saturate the dried fecal matter then wipe it away with a disposable cloth. For good measure you can spray the area again.

Be sure to dispose of the cloth you used in the trash and wash your hands immediately after, just as you would when cleaning up any matter of waste.
