List three condition for complete combustion to take place?

The 3 conditions for combustion are:

1. Something flammable like "fuel"

E.g: Wood, petrol, kerosene, alcohol(ethanol), methane, etc.

2. A right temperature to ignite. The fuel must be above a certain temperature, the temperature which something will ignite is the IGNITE POINT

3. It has to have fresh air: Oxygen

What is the difference between butter and magerine?

  • Butter is made by taking milk, centrifuging to separate the cream, churning the cream.
  • Margarine is made by taking vegetable oil, hydrogenating it in a vessel at high pressure and temperature in a hydrogen atmosphere, adding yellow coloring and some flavorings to make it look and taste something like butter.

How do you make homemade fireworks?

Homemade fireworks start with gunpowder. This is a highly dangerous practice and not suggested without proper experience and safety equipment. Gun powder is highly unstable, as are many of the other chemicals used.

How much do mechanical engineers get paid a year?

The average annual salary for an engineer in the United States is $70,000. Salaries can vary based on location and experience. The low end of the scale is $47,700 and the high end of the scale is $90,340.

How does chemical engineering relate to engineering?

Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering (others are electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, etc.).

Is there a demand chemical engineering in the future?

There will always be a demand for civil engineers. Every roadway, bridge, building, and traffic signal will need to be repaired or replaced at some point in the future. Also, there will be demand for the design and construction of new public works as populations grow. Designing and building these works is what civil engineers do and society needs them for this purpose now and in the future.

How much gasoline is produced from one barrel of oil?

One barrel (42 gallons) of crude oil, when refined, yields approximately 19.6 gallons of finished motor gasoline. The remainder of the barrel yields distillate fuel oil, residual fuel oil, jet fuel, and other products.

How Do you calculate the area of pipe?

Start with the maximum flow speed (metres per second) for your liquid, then mutiply by the area of the pipe in square metres, the result is maximum volume flow rate in cubic metres per second.

Is PVC waterproof?

Yes.

PVC stands for Polyvinyl chloride. It is water resistant and so it is waterproof.

It is a synthetic resin prepared by the polymerization of vinyl chloride.

PVC is used to make water pipes, floor sheets and tiles, water proof cartons, rain coats, shower curtains, and many items that need to be protected from water and fire.

It is also flame resistant. Chlorine is released when you burn PVC, and chlorine atoms inhibit combustion.

Does water form an azeotrope with epichlorohydrin?

A simulation in SimSci Pro/II simulator using the NTRL Liquid Activity method at 14.696 psia for 1-chloro-2,3-epoxypropane (epichlorohydrin) and water indicates that they do not. The T-x-y diagram and equilibrium x-y diagrams do not show an azetrope forming at any point. As a side note these two chemicals should be insoluble in one another so you would not generally expect an azeotrope to form. See the link for an image of the equilibrium graphs.

Water is heated and changed to STEAM?

That is called boiling.

And it is something you can see and observe, but it is something tht is chemically relted and so it is a chemical change.

What is Boiler feed pump?

Function - It adds the pressure to the feed water before it entyers into boiler feed pump suction

Advantage - Ensures high margin NPSH A for boiler feed pump spinning at high rpm (5250Rpm)

Drive for booster - Normally @1450 rpm

Type of impeller- Mostly preferred Double suction

What is the use of venturimeter?

Venturimeter is the short pipe having two conical parts and portion of uniform cross section between these two parts.

What is difference between unit operation and unit process?

process is a set of operation for example in a sugar mill the processing involve

1. bringing out juice from sugarcane.

2. heat them.

3.refine them.etc.

here process is the combination of all of the above stated tasks (1,2,3,).

on the contrary, each of the tasks of a process is operation for example the task

1,2,3, each are operation.

What are the differences between an impulse turbine and a reaction turbine?

The difference between impulse and reaction turbine goes here...... 1) In case of an impulse turbine the pressure remains same in the rotor or runners, but in case of reaction turbine the pressure decreases in runners as well as stators also. 2) In case of impulse turbine the pressure drop happens only in the nozzle part by means of its kinetic energy. In case of Reaction one the stators those are fixed to the diaphragm act as a nozzle.

Why is the suction line of a pump larger than the discharge line?

It is common practice to specify the pump suction line one size larger than the pump discharge line in order to increase the Net Positive Suction Head available (NPSHA) to the pump. A smaller suction line the same pipe size as the discharge line would result in more pressure drop in the suction line and reduce the amount of head available to the suction side of the pump. This in turn would result in an operating point closer to cavitation of the pump.

What are the safe working practices and procedures to be observed when working with tig or plasma arc welding equipment?

Before any work is done on the machine you must ensure that the correct risk assessments are in place and have been fully read so you're aware of the dangers that the machine possess.

When working with machinery you should always ensure that you're competent to use it, do not use equipment that you're not trained to use. When using machinery always be aware of where you're emergency stop buttons are and where there are any areas in which you could be caught, entangled or trapped in moving parts. Always ensure that you remove any lose clothing or jewellery and tie back long hair. Ensure that all machine guards are put in place before using the machine.

When using an automated welder, you should always ensure that you wear the correct P.P.E at all times. Always wear a long sleeve welding jacket to cover any bare skin to stop UV burns. Use a welding helmet or face shield when the arc is in process to protect your face from UV burns and your eyes from "arc eye". Wear safety glasses at all times to ensure that your eyes are protected from any particles or debris that my fly into your eyes. Before, during and after welding ensure that there are adequate welding screens around the equipment to protect others in the vicinity from the welding arc. Also if necessary use the correct fume extraction equipment to remove any unwanted fumes, this will not only protect your but others in the vicinity.

On completion of any welding activity the machine must be shut down in the correct manner, to avoid any malfunctions and damage to the software. You should dispose of any waste, i.e. filler wire, materials, in the correct manner that applies with the COSHH regulations.

What is stone wall effect in compressor?

The term stonewall refers to the condition when the compressor fails to develop any head, as the suction volumetric flow is too high for a given RPM. (Recall that, typically, the head drops off as suction flow increases for a given RPM. Eventually, the head v/s suction flow curve becomes nearly vertical at the stonewall flow.)

Stonewall or Choke - occurs under one of 2 conditions. Typically for high speed equipment, as flow increases the velocity of the gas/fluid can approach the gas/fluid's sonic speed somewhere within the compressor stage. This location may occur at the impeller inlet "throat" or at the vaned diffuser inlet "throat".

Applications of venturimeter?

1. It is used for flow measerment with minimum head loss.

2. It is used in industries for flow measerment of chemicals.

3. it is also used in the airoplane for measurment of speed of plane.
