--------------- 1/15/09 ----------- You have 2 choices, either lower the front axle assembly a few inches, or remove the motor mount bolts and raise the motor a few inches. Take off the distibutor cap or it will crush against the firewall when you lift the motor. Either way it is still a tight fit to clear the oil pump and screen with the pan. You would get the most clearance by removing the front axle.

it is not on the left side, it is on the right side which is the passenger side of the vehicle. You have to remove the tire, then the fender well and then look way back up towards the fender wall next to the fender and you will see it. there are approx. 3 or 4 screws holding it in. if you raise your hood it will give you more light and you can see it better. I just replaced mine yesterday on my 1979 Camaro, I did the work myself so that is how I know where it is.

How do you replace a fuel pump on a 1999 z28 camaro?
very large job. release the fuel pressure. remove fuel tank. disconnect the fuel feed, return, and vapor line as an assembly from the top of the fuel tank.remove the 5 nuts around the ring washer holding the pump in place.lift fuel pump out of the tank. CAUT-ION. do NOT bump the float or unit againstt the tank or it will alter the accuracy of your gas gauge.I recomend replacing the rubber gasket around the opening of the tank. remove the strainer from the lower end of the pump.if it's dirty, clean it. if it is too dirty to clean, replace it. lift the locking tabs to release the fuel pump cover from the frame. if you need to separate the pump and sending unit, disconnect the electrical connector and note position. disconnect fuel line from pump. separate pump from assembly. installation is reversed.
