What is the firing order for a 1993 Ford Thunderbird?

Just today I had to figure this one out. My son wanted to tune the car up, but took everything off at once. I referred to the Internet but could find little help. I did find some pictures on the Internet that show the firing order wrong. I have a 1993 Ford Thunderbird LX, with a 3.8L V6, and after garnering information from several sources finally got it right. The cylinders are numbered 1 through 6, with #1 being the forward left corner, or the left corner closest to you as you look at the engine from the front. That would be the front most corner on the passenger side, forward starboard if you are into nautical terms. Then, working clockwise, #2 is aft of #1, then #3 is the back plug on the passenger side. Still working clockwise, #6 is the aft-most on the drivers side, followed by #5 in the middle, then 4 is the front-most corner on the drivers side. [3] -- [6]

[2] -- [5]

[1] -- [4]

The distributor follows no easy pattern. #1 on the distributor cap is on the top, midway between the two screws, in roughly the 1:00 position. It will be two points away from the round attaching screw, working counter-clockwise. Some Internet sites show it being at the bottom in the 5:00 position; this was wrong on my engine. In fact, the distributor cap installed had a 1 embossed on the cap in the correct spot. The wire placement order, starting with #1, is as follows... 1, 4, 2, 5, 3, 6.

20hp vtech Briggs and stratton backfire at high RPM?

I can give you a partial answer. These bigger engines will sometimes have an adjustment screw that you can adjust the high speed idle. It sounds like it is getting too much fuel when it is at higher rpm. You will have to play with it until it evens out. I wish I could tell you exactly how to do this. I have just never had the opportunity to work on one of these engines.

Wrong!!! There's no such thing as a high speed idle. You need to adjust your carburetor so it runs a little more rich (your currently to lean). Just take the spark plug out and have a look at it. If it's white and your engine is producing a light blue smoke from the exhaust it's to lean. If it's black and your engine is producing excess black smoke (your be able to smell the gas) from the exhaust it's to rich. When you have it adjusted just right the spark plug shoud have a nice brown color to it.

How much would it cost to replace the rear window in a 1981 El Camino?

The curved windows are quite expensive because that is the only car they were put in and only in the later generations. The back window cost about $600 new plus shipping and handeling. On top of that you would have to pay the shop to install the new window. I would get a quote from a shop and try to find a window from a junk yard. Luckily I have a spare for my el camino.

Where is the coolant temperature sensor on a 83 Chevy El Camino?

On my 85 V8 its located right in front and a little below of the filter. You will see a wire is plugged into it. Just carefully unplug the wire and there it is. You can pull it out and replace it, then plug the wire back in. Make sure your car has cooled down first. You dont want coolant spraying everywhere

How do you check windshield wiper motor in a 1977 El Camino?

Hi, I had problems with mine also. I found these web pages helpful: http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/wiper-motor-problems-115630.html http://elcaminocentral.com/articles/wipers/multi.html There are others but this should get you started. I got a junkyard wiper motor and to check it I just ran small jumper cables to the wiper motor from my car battery. I found that I also had to ground the long grounding strap on the wiper motor to the engine block while I was testing it. Good luck!

Is it against the law to insure a car for someone els?

Maybe:

  • All regular drivers must be listed on the policy.
  • If a driver is more than an occasional driver ( 2 times per month Rule of thumb ) he or she is a regular driver

If the driver is listed on the Policy as a regular driver it is legal and OK.

If you are trying to get around a DUI or something, the instant there is an accident, your cars fault or not, the police and the insurance company will figure it out.

People have gone to Jail for this kind of Insurance Fraud.

How do you remove a door panel for a 1981 El Camino?

1. remove the arm rest

2. remove the 2 large screws behind arm rest

3. use a 'pickle fork' to snap the door panel retainers loose. Pickle fork looks like a wide blade screwdriver with a slot cut in the center. Pull the panel out just enough to be able to see where the retainers are and put the fork on either side of each retainer and pry it out. You'll probably break a couple so have 2 or 3 new ones available.

4. There may or may not be a screw at each end of the top trim...if so, remove and work the trim piece out.

5. Lift panel off carefully as the window controls will still be attached (if you have power windows)

Would the value depreciate if a 67 El Camino engine was replaced with a 305 instead of a stock engine?

Yes it would, Atleast if you plan to sell it as a stock vehicle. If you simply want to enjoy the wonderful car truck then the 305 would be alright. Depending on options included with the vehicle, the value loss can be quite significant. However if you are building a custom or a daily driver, what it has for an engine is really insignificant. Anytime you change anything on a classic, the value normally goes down. It all depends on the condition of the vehicle, and what you plan on doing with it. If you do indeed decide to change engines, I would certainly not install a 305. I would instead install a good 350. It is a much better engine with more power and dependability.
