Which are the best child safety products on the market?
Among the best child safety products on the market are outlet plugs (safety plugs for outlets around the house), floating safety bath pals, and window blind cord wrap ups. Other safety products in the top 10 are drawer latches and table edge bumpers.
Can a child ride in a taxi in Calif without a safety seat?
Whether the laws in California don't press seat belt laws wouldn't you think a person with any intelligence would care enough about their child to make sure they are strapped in by a seat belt? I've seen people go right through windshields and it's not a pretty sight! Buckle up and be safe! In British Columbia, Canada there is a fine if adults or children are not buckled up and they are heavy fines. How unintelligent people can be when buckling up means saving your life. I've been in four car accidents (only one was my fault) and the last one I was in was a 'head on' and without my seat belt I would have either been badly injured or gone through the windshield or out the back window of the vehicle. Once you get use to seat belts it's like breathing. You don't even notice it after awhile and should you forget for a few minutes you feel almost naked.
Can you transport a child under 6 without a safety seat?
You can of course transport a child under six without a safety seat. The question should be whether it is legal or advisable to transport a child under a certain age without safety seat using a specific means of transport.
Most localities will have legal requirements for use of motorized vehicles. Some localities also have legislation for use of some not motorized forms of transport, such as bicycles or horseback. Few will have legislation applicable to the individual use of other forms of transport, including the use of public transport, walkways, etc.
Common sense dictates that everyone should always travel with suitable safety arrangements meeting, and possibly exceeding, legal minimum requirements. This includes the use of safety belts in cars, crash helmets on motorbikes and bicycles, or protective back gear and helmet on horseback. For persons under a certain size, standard safety belts in cars are insufficient, and should be accompanied by raised seating. While the law typically expresses a threshold in terms of age, this is not so much a matter of the persons's age, but her or his body size, state of mental health and sense of responsibility.
What are the laws of repossessed cars in Canada?
The 2004/05 Prius has plenty of room in the back seat for two child seats as will as some space between them for a very, very small size adult. On the back of rear seats are hooks/latch for anchoring the top back of the child seats to the auto seat. All three back seats have lap and shoulder belts. I easily fit 4 teen girls and allll their school gear, plus mine, in my Prius hatchback. No problems seeing out the back window. The Prius has more cargo room than my BMW530i. Also the Prius has lots of smaller storage compartments in the front seat in the console and the glove box area.
I've done a little research on this.
My Advice;
READ YOUR CAR MANUAL!!!
If it says you only have LATCH for the two outer seats, that's all you have. You can not use the inner most LATCH hooks for the middle.
According to a posting I found here's why;
"My SUV only has the LATCH system on the side seats and not the middle seat. I spoke to the car safety officier for the police department ... he told me not to use the LATCH in the middle position (by using the side seats LATCH system) since my SUV is not equipped with it is because the LATCH is connected to the car frame and if we were in an accident and the frame of the car bent it could tear his seat in pieces. I was not aware that the LATCH was connected to the frame"

If you can get a secure fit using the seat beat in the middle, this is the safest place. If not, use the LATCH on the passenger side.
Does the 2002 tracker have the LATCH system for car seats?
I'm not too sure about the 2002 tracker having car seat latches, but my 2000 tracker doesn't. Near the bottom of the back door however there are plastic caps on the molding. Pop these out and they reveal bolt holes. Your car seat should come with a bolt that matches these holes, and this is where you install the metal loop (that should have also come with your car seat) for the hook that is on the seat itself. If the 2002 does have a latch system, it may be under the carpet in the rear section. The carpet should pull out from under the molding to lift it up and then can be re-attached by using a butterknife to push the carpet back under the molding. Good luck!
How do you use child safety seats and seat belts?
A child is big enough to sit in the vehicle lap and shoulder belt when they can sit with their back against the vehicle seat back with their knees bent over the edge of the vehicle seat without slouching. This is when a child is approximately eight years old and 4'9." If a child cannot sit properly in the vehicle lap and shoulder belt they should use a belt positioning booster seat.
The lap belt should lie securely on a child's upper thigh. The shoulder belt should fit snugly across the chest and rest between their neck and shoulder.
Lap and shoulder belt are designed for adults and made to ride over the bony areas of the shoulders and hips. With small children, the lap belt tends to ride up into their abdomens and the shoulder belt cuts across their necks. A booster seat positions the lap and shoulder belt properly. Click here for information on the proper use of booster seats.
Lap and shoulder belt provide greater protection than a lap belt alone because it provides upper body restraint in addition to lower body restraint. Children large enough for a seat belt should use the vehicle's lap and shoulder belt. If your vehicle has lap only belts in the back seat, you may want to consider having shoulder belts installed by a dealer or repair facility. Most vehicle manufacturers offer retrofit shoulder belt kits for this purpose.
The shoulder belt should never be placed behind a child. He/she could be seriously injured in a crash. If the seat belt does not fit properly, a child should use a belt-positioning booster seat.
Never place the shoulder belt under a child's arm. Placing the shoulder belt under a child's arm can cause life-threatening injuries in a crash. If the seat belt does not fit properly, a child should use a belt-positioning booster seat.
Should children younger than 4 years old be secured in child safety seats?
Yes, and it is law that you do so. If you get in an accident your child could be thrown out of the car or within the car. Many children are killed each year when not in a safety seat.
