Why did it take so long to pass an effective child labor law in the 1900s?

Because it wasn't seen as a problem at first, most children wanted to work, so they could bring home the money needed. But most young children 14 and under weren't paid at all. So once people started to notice it becoming a problem, they made it against the law for workers to not be paid no matter what age. Although even after the law was settled factory workers still didn't pay the children.

Can a 14 year old teach a 3 year old for payment?

Yes, but only if she/he is well educated!

Three year olds are too young for formal "teaching" but they are ready to learn their colors, they may be ready to learn letter and number recognition but all this needs to be done as "play". A three year old has a very short attention span and should be spending time climbing, running, building with blocks, improving fine motor skills, in preparation for formal education beginning around age 5.

Why did child labor start?

It was during the changeover to an Industrial economy. The population boomed, and many children were starving. And the new factories needed cheap labor.

The children could work there, or die. They - and their parents - predominantly chose for them to work there. As the economy grew, the need to have the children as income earner decreased, and the capital accumulation of the factories allowed them to afford the more costly adult workers.

What are some summer jobs for 7-11 year olds?

I'm currently eleven right now and am thinking the same thing. I only now a few jobs but I hope this helps.

1.) Dog walking/ pet sitting.

Ask the owner if you could work out a reasonable price to pay for the length of time you are working. My dog loves to play in the trash can when my family is not home. You could dog sit the dog.

2.) babysitting.

people may not hire you if you are so young, but you could ask your family members to pay you. You could watch your sibling's, younger cousins, or even babies of family friends.

3.) Yard work.

I did this over the summer at my uncle's house and earned $300 dollars by the end of the summer. I live in an apartment but you could do some gardening in your yard with your mom or dad.

4.) House work.

Maybe wash all of the dishes or do some vacuming. I hated washing the dishes but i got some rubber gloves and earned fifty dollars in one week.

As I said before I hope this helps, maybe go on google and search jobs for kids. I'm still looking for jobs myself. And for some advice don't charge to much for the jobs you don't want to push your luck.
