Can a man beat a chimp if he was very angry?
A person with some training might be able to land some a few blows on a Chimp, but they are extremely robust creatures. Chimpanzees are many times stronger than a human because they have less grey matter in their spinal cord, meaning there are less muscle neurons to activate small muscle groups. This ultimately means that they can access larger sections of muscle at once. On top of that, they do not have the types of biological limiters that humans have because they do not have as many fine motor control muscles to protect. This means if they get a hold of you, your arm is most likely going to be ripped off. A good example of their strength was described by one Primatologist. Chimps in alpha male positions, or those wishing to dethrone him, like to show off their power by beating on the base of trees. This produces a drum-like sound that reverberates throughout the forest. After witnessing such a display, the Primatologist hit the tree as hard as he could, but produced no sound like the one he had heard.
Not in the way humans do, but they are fairly apt at communicating moods and some basic intentions.
