Depends on the laws of your state. Vehicles which don't require a CDL are regulated by individual states. Some states have a chauffeur's licence system for taxis, limos, and passenger vehicles carrying less than 16 passengers (including the driver). Some states do not.

The ACTUAL legal answer is that cut-out pressure should be between 115 and 130 psi, with cut-in pressure being no more than 25 psi below cut-out pressure. Now, to clear up some inaccuracies..the compressor doesn't stop working when cut out pressure is reached - most (but not all) simply go into an unloaded state. The purge of air you hear when this happens isn't the pop off valves on the tank, but rather, air coming out of the purge valve on the air dryer - the air dryer canister traps moisture and oil before it can get to the primary and secondary tanks, and air is forced through the canister to remove the moisture and oil which was collected in the canister to keep it from becoming oversaturated. The pop off valves on the tanks are not to regulate pressure in the system, but rather, to prevent the tanks from rupturing in the event that pressure regulation system fails and doesn't put the compressor into an unloaded state.

A new (as of June 2014) Federal regulation requires states to put a "no manual transmission" restriction on the CDL of anyone who road tests in a truck that doesn't have a fully manual transmission.

There are two other new restrictions: if you road test in a vehicle that has "air over hydraulic" brakes (kinda like the power brake system in a car, but the booster chamber runs on air instead of vacuum because diesel engines have no usable vacuum) you will receive a "no air brakes" restriction, and if you road test in a combination vehicle that connects the trailer any other way than via fifth wheel you will receive a "no tractor trailer" restriction.

OTOH there is, so far as I know, no rule setting the minimum length of the trailer you must use in your road test.

However, I would advise against this - if you're going to be driving commercial vehicles, learning how to shift an unsynchronised transmission is going to be an important skill to know, and it's a lot different than shifting in a normal passenger vehicle. If you go to take a road test for a company which uses manual shift trucks, and you're constantly grinding gears, show yourself to be unable to downshift proficiently, can't do basic gear recovery, etc., you're not going to get the job, because no company wants to hire drivers who they know will end up destroying their transmissions.

The numbers on a commercial vehicle have to be a "contrasting" color. They don't say WHICH color you have to use, because if they said something like "the numbers must be black" they'd have a problem because there are a lot of guys running around in black trucks. So...if the numbers are clearly visible against the side of the truck, they're fine.

Connect it to the OBD2 interface. They are normally located on the drivers side under the edge of the dash. But they can be other places.
