The computer considered by most historians to be the first true portable computer was the Osborne 1. Adam Osborne, an ex-book publisher founded Osborne Computer and produced the Osborne 1 in 1981, a portable computer that weighed 24 pounds and cost $1795. The Osborne 1 came with a five-inch screen, modem port, two 5 1/4 floppy drives, a large collection of bundled software programs, and a battery pack. The short-lived computer company was never successful.

What are the Positive and negatives of technology?
The positives and negatives of technology largely depend on how it is used; for example, the Internet has many positive uses but also negative ones - its not the Internet which is positive or negative, but the decisions of the users.
How has computer programming changed over the years?
The development of programming languages, unsurprisingly, follows closely the development of the physical and electronic processes used in today's computers. Programming languages have been under development for years and will remain so for many years to come. They got their start with a list of steps to wire a computer to perform a task. These steps eventually found their way into software and began to acquire newer and better features. The first major languages were characterized by the simple fact that they were intended for one purpose and one purpose only, while the languages of today are differentiated by the way they are programmed in, as they can be used for almost any purpose. And perhaps the languages of tomorrow will be more natural with the invention of quantum and biological computers. Charles Babbage is often credited with designing the first computer-like machines, which had several programs written for them (in the equivalent of assembly language) by Ada Lovelace. In the 1940s the first recognizably modern, electrically powered computers were created. Some military calculation needs were a driving force in early computer development, such as encryption, decryption, trajectory calculation and massive number crunching needed in the development of atomic bombs. At that time, computers were extremely large, slow and expensive: advances in electronic technology in the post-war years led to the construction of more practical electronic computers. At that time only Konrad Zuse imagined the use of a programming language (developed eventually as Plankalk
What was the computer industry's first planned family of computers?
Most likely this was IBM's System 360 computers, announced in 1964.
Prior to the System 360 computer systems were not planned in advance as a "family" with one architecture, instead one machine was designed then a few years later an expanded partially compatible machine was designed to keep up with expanding customer needs. Different machines with very different architectures were designed for different customer markets (e.g. scientific, business, low cost) resulting in having to maintain wildly divergent systems. The idea of the System 360 was to cover all customer markets (the only failing that turned up later was it could not cover the very low end of the low cost market).
Most, but not all, use a boot PROM.
What is Jonathan Postel known for?
Jonathan Bruce Postel (August 6, 1943 - October 16, 1998) was an American computer scientist who made many significant contributions to the development of the Internet, particularly with respect to standards. He is known principally for being the Editor of the Request for Comment (RFC) document series, and for administering the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) until his death.
The Internet Society's Postel Award is named in his honor, as is the Postel Center at Information Sciences Institute. His obituary was written by Vint Cerf and published as RFC 2468 in remembrance of Postel and his work. In 2012, Postel was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame by the Internet Society.
Bill English invented which type of mouse?
Bill English actually did not design the mouse. Douglas Englebart did. Bill English was one of the engineers who helped Englebart build it. He is credited with the introduction of the first commercial ball mouse.
