What are some causes for the decline in bee populations?
The queen could die, or there could be a food shortage. However, a dip in bee population numbers in bad years would be cancelled out in the good years. One of the causes of the decline in bee populations is the spraying of crops with of pesticides, and also by the spreading of mites and other parasites.
There is also another possible cause: GM crops. I do not know what effect the pollen from GM (Genetically Modified) crops has on bees, but as GM seeds are specifically designed to be unable to be used as seed for the next year's crop, this means the growers have no choice except to buy seed to sow for the next year. The bees don't know that the seeds are good for only one year, so does this mean that the honey they make from the pollen of these now-infertile seeds is also non-life-sustaining as well? I don't know, but perhaps someone could check bee-population changes in GM crop areas.
reproduce means to produce other living things like themselves.
Yes, hermit crabs can drown. But it is still very important to have distilled water in the tank for your hermit crab to drink. Putting a natural sponge can help hermit crabs from drowning. Also do not put enough water in the bowl for it to drown.
Hermit crabs also need SEA salt water for them to bathe in to get their exoskeleton stronger. Hermit crabs need distilled water because the clorine burs their modified (hardened) gills, the gills are not the kind fish have. Hermies gills need moisture in the air. so have the tank have 70 - 80% humidity.
Do pet hermit crabs change shells by themselves?
Yes, they do. if they're in a tank put some shells in it for it to swap them over. Otherwise no they don't.
Crab legs may fall off while cooking if they are not properly attached to the body or if they are overcooked. When overcooked, the meat shrinks and can cause the legs to detach more easily. It's important to handle the crab delicately to avoid this issue.
Can you catch crabs in January?
Yes, you can catch crabs in January, but it largely depends on the species and location. For example, in warmer coastal regions, some crab species may still be active and available for catch. However, in colder climates, crabs typically slow down or become inactive during winter months, making them less accessible. Always check local regulations and seasonal guidelines for specific areas.

Yes, I suggest putting moss balls in their habitat. Moss balls are made of algae and absorb a small amount of amonia from their waste. Gently squeeze the water out of your moss balls during water changes. Be sure not to squeeze so hard that you block the light from being able to penetrate it though as light is its food source. Fluff it back up in clean water by gently tossing it through your finger tips and put it back in your tank.
How does water salinity affect crab movement?
I can confirm that hermit crabs favor salinity on the lower end of the reef tank spectrum vs. higher. I have been trying to ease my salinity down from 35 ppt to 30 ppt. The closer I get, the more active the crabs have become. I have about a dozen and they have ALL started to become more active. Take it FWIW.
The majority of crabs are omnivores, while some are carnivores, and some are herbivores. Crabs will often eat algae, worms, small fish, and sometimes dead fish or other crabs. Diet varies depending on the species.
