How did the Cuban missile crisis bring the world to the brnk edge of war?

The Cuban Missile Crisis brought the world to the brink of war because the United States stated that they would use any means to stop the USSR from bringing missiles to Cuba. The USSR was just as determined to take the missiles to Cuba. This led to a tense stand off between the two countries. Had the USSR not backed down, the two countries would have gone to war and their allies would have been pulled into the conflict.

None, Cuba doesn't have those missiles anymore and the non existent Soviet Union can't supply them with new ones or the nuclear payload that never actually made it to Cuba anyway.

Cause of Cold War?

Beginning as early as the mid-1940s or as late as the 1950s (depending on the assessment of various factors), the Cold War that dominated most of the second half of the 20th century had several causes. Perhaps above all, the two super-powers in the world after World War II -- the United States and the Soviet Union -- had diametrically opposed views of the right way to order and govern society. Indeed, these two 'empires' of a sort had entirely different understandings of 'the good life,' and each was intent on protecting its views against intrusion from the other.

Cuban missile crisis cause?

President Kennedy admitted to lack of missile gap unlike Eisenhower. He said that the US was way ahead of the Soviets in the developing missiles. This made Khrushchev (The Soviet leader) look bad. And this angers Cuba a lot especially, after our failed attempt with the Bay of Pigs. Castro starts to buddy up with the Soviets a lot more. Khrushchev doesn't want to see the US take Cuba down. So he offers to arm Castro with weapons. The US has the Soviet Union surrounded with missile sites and the Soviets wants at least one site near the US. If they could get Cuba they would have their "one place". A U2 planes discovered installation sites being built in Cuba by the soviets. Kennedy called together the National Security Council, DOD, etc. to discuss what to do with this. We came up with three options. 1)Invade Cuba-Bay of pigs was a failure. 2) Air Strike- were afraid if we did do that ,t hey would shoot our planes3) Leave it alone. No one was really satisfied with those three option so we decided to Quarantine AKA Blockade Cuba. The Cuban Missile Crisis scared everyone to death; we were on the verge of nuclear war. In 1963 the US and the Soviet Union Signed a nuclear Test Ban Treaty which banned the testing of atomic weapons. A hotline was also set up between Moscow and Washington D.C.

How was the Cuban missiles crisis resolved?

The Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved after US President John F. Kennedy and Soviet Chairman Nikita Kruschev reached an agreement that if the US promised to remove their ICBMs (missiles) from Turkey and to never invade Cuba again, the USSR would agree to remove its missiles from Cuba.

It is a possibility that the Soviet Union was taking a chance on the "safety" of Cuba, as time would remove both men from office.

Was the Bay of Pigs invasion a legitimate plan to overthrow Castro?

It was an illegal, unprovoked attack backed by the US in an attempt to overthrow Castro. It failed largely due to the attackers having no actual plan or objective, and the fact the Cubans did not in any way support the attack. The Americans and rich Cuban exiles were counting on the people to go "hey! People who want to help us go back to an over 40% illiteracy rate and the nickname 'the bordello of the US'! Let's join them!". Surprisingly enough, that did not happen, and the Cubans beat them back.

What caused the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962?

One of the causes of the Cuban Missile Crisis was that the USSR was afraid that they have might have gotten hit by a missile first so they secretly hid a missile in Cuba. Another cause would be that and Nikita were afraid to lose Cuba in an invasion from the U.S.A, so they agreed to put missiles on their island because of protection. There were also many tensions with the USSR and the States with the peace program that Russia wanted to start. Then the U.S.A said that they would be tougher on Russia to end the Cold War. The USSR wanted all the power and so did the United States. Only one could have all of the power so the USSR acted first.

the reason the misil crisis started was because they were both scared of eachother!!!

Who was the leader of cuba during the Cuban missile crisis?

Cuba - Fidel Castro

USSR - Nikita Krushchev

USA - John F. Kennedy

Castro did not play that big a role. The missiles belonged to the USSR, and were operated by Soviet soldiers. The showdown over the missiles was between the USA and the USSR more than with Cuba itself. Cuba was regarded as doing whatever the USSR told them to do.
