How do you encourage more people donate their organs?

It's really a personal preference to become an organ donor. You can always ask a person if they are and if they're not, persuade them other wise ... but it may come off as strange. You can also make start a campaign ad stating how many lives are saved by donors and how you should become one to help someone in need. Other than that, making people do things is frowned upon.

How much younger on average do alcoholics die?

It varies with individuals. If a person is a moderate drinker (just a few each day ... cocktails every night, drinking with associates over deals being made, or several other drinks in the evening to relax they can still be classified as an alcoholic) then it may take years. If the person has been a heavy drinker for years the liver will be the first to go and that is usually the beginning of the end. It can take years, but it will catch up to the person. I have a friend I've known for 22 years (heavy drinker) and he's just been diagnosed with liver failure (not much they can do because his immune system is so low) and it's a matter of time before he passes away. It's very sad. A person that admits they are an alcoholic has made a giant leap in beating it. It's a must to go to AA and get support from the group and the person's mate can go to Alanon to learn how alcoholism occurs and how cope with their partner. There has been scientific studies that working with your doctor and taking larger doses of Vitamin B can help with the side effects of coming off alcohol. Going to the gym and working out also helps (after a complete physical from your doctor) and drinking lots of water. Exercise makes you perspire and helps with the toxins in your body and the water flushes it out. Good diet is another important thing. This may seem over-whelming to an alcoholic, but once they have admitted they are an alcoholic, join AA, work out, eat well and exercise it doesn't take long before they start feeling better. My friend has not touched a drop of alcohol thus eats better and has admitted he feels the best he's felt in years, but it's too late to make much difference.

How do antibiotics effect blood sugar levels?

I am a type 2 diabetic and when I take any of the cillin family of drugs, my blood glucose will rise 80-100 points. I normally run 110-120 in the mornings before breakfast. On Pen-VK, 800,000 units, it will be near 200-220. I take insulin 4 times daily. 20u,20u,25u and 35u long lasting (24hr type at 9pm each day). Even taking my insulin dosages as requiered, my glucose is still high. But 8-10 hrs after I quit the pen-vk it goes back to MY NORMAL. Allways check with your doctor before taking any meds. This is more so if you are a diabetic! Even though I can get meds in Mexico, I live close, I never take them without my Doctor knowing. If he says don't, then I don't. Hope this helps.

How does a fire happen?

Fire needs fuel, oxygen and heat. Unless the temperature of the fuel rises because of a hot environment, fires usually also need a source of ignition (flame, spark etc)

(More detailed answer)

Technically oxidation occurs.

For instance, when wood burns, the carbon found in the cellulose of plant material will readily combine with the oxygen in the air and form carbon dioxide when given enough energy.

This is because if there is sufficient thermal energy in the system, the electrostatic attraction between the carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen within the cellulose of the wood with begin to weaken. The carbon found in the wood will be highly attracted to the oxygen gas found in the air, so the oxygen will then break the double bond with itself to allow the carbon to combine with it, this in turn will form carbon dioxide.

Since the oxygen is so highly attracted to the carbon, there will be much kinetic energy involved in the transfer, in other words, the atom of oxygen in the air will rush towards the carbon atom in a rather violent manner. As this reaction occurs energy is often distributed to other neighboring atoms, if the energy is sufficient enough, it will induce the same reaction over again with more carbon and oxygen atoms, this is known as a chain reaction.

The bright flame that forms with a fire is due to the nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas being liberated from the cellulose with locally high energy/temperature. These gases have such a high temperature that the electrons bound to the atom are rapidly accelerating and decelerating and jumping up and down electron shells, and in turn continually emitting photons that we perceive as 'fire'.

The smoke is mainly composed of Di methoxy-phenol, phenol and other carbonyl compounds. This is essentially due to the sugars in the wood being 'caramelized' with the heat, hence the slightly sweet smell of burnt wood.
