What do you mean by saying 3-4 years of residency?

Residency training is for doctors after they graduate medical school so that they can learn a particular specialty. When a doctor first graduates from medical school, they have studied all of the major fields of medicine, but are not experts in any one particular field. For instance, they know as much about pediatrics as they do gynecology. But if they want to become a pediatrician, they need to become an expert in that field.

Different residencies are different in length. Most pediatrics residencies are 3 years in length, but some are 4, and some are 3 years for most residents and an additional 4th year if you want to be a "chief resident." People may pick this 4 year path if they want to further specialize, for instance if they want to do a fellowship in cardiology to become a pediatric cardiologist.

What are arguments for or against doctors being sued for a patient's death?

Here are opinions on "Why shouldn't doctors be sued for a patient's death?": * Because they did more to keep them alive than anyone else? * Death happens to everyone. Bad things happen to good people. There is a very large difference between a bad outcome such as death and death caused by a mistake. People often sue physicians because something bad happened to them or a family member died that was not the result of anything the physician did or didn't do. If the physician did not meet the accepted standard of care and a death occurred because of it, there would be a reason to sue. But suing because a person who smoked for 30 years and had high blood pressure died of a heart attack is ridiculous, for example. * Unless there is clear evidence of negligence on the part of the attending physician or medical personnel there would be no grounds for remand and cure. Unfortunately there are unethical attorneys who take advantage of a family when they are the most vulnerable and convince them to pursue a malpractice suit regardless that said action has no merit. This however does not mean a doctor, hospital or any medical personnel or facility cannot nor should not be held legally accountable for harm done due to negligence.

Do German plastic surgeons produce smaller noses for their nose job patients than plastic surgeons of other races such as Jewish?

Answer: I don't know for a fact if German plastic surgeons produce smaller noses for their nose job patients. I don't know of anyone other than Michael Jackson, who's got a small nose as a result of a nose job. The city I live in, in Canada, half the people are German, and many of them have cute little noses, in my opinion. When I had a nose job in the 80's, I think there was only one plastic surgeon in the city I live in. I'm not sure, but I think he's Polish or Jewish. The result of my nose job is, my nose looks as big as his! Is it possible he kept my nose big to preserve some appearance of my race, because he's proud of the appearance of his own race? I've been told I'm Jewish, but I'm not convinced I'm Jewish. Before my nose job, my nose looked like Peter Sellers, the deceased comedy movie star, and Barry Manilow, the pop star from the 70's. Now my nose looks like Wayne Gretzky or Prince Charles. If I ever inquire about getting another nose job, I think I'll try to find a German plastic surgeon. I know Neo-Nazis hate my big nose. Maybe German plastic surgeons hate big noses too, and would like to make my nose cute and small. Then again, there's so much racism I'd be afraid to trust my life to a German who may be a secret racist and might kill me and make it look like an accident. Although I've never heard of anyone dying from a nose job. But I have to trust someone.

Is an MBBS degree from Ukraine accepted to study neurosurgery in US?

The type of bachelor's degree is not the critical issue. The issue is whether you have completed all the prerequisite coursework required by medical schools within the US. For example the following.

  • Biology (cell biology, biology of the organism)
  • Chemistry (inorganic, organic)
  • Physics
  • Communication (written and oral)
  • Higher level math's (algebra, trigonometry, calculus)
  • Computer literacy
  • Development of good critical thinking skills.

In addition, medical schools will also look for activities such as, clinical experience, volunteer activities, and research.

Individuals who pursue medical school come for a variety of educational backgrounds and fields, thus the above will be critical in terms of the selection process which is extremely competitive.

Can a nurse get a job in a doctor's office having zero hospital experience?

In the USA, nurses do not need hospital work experience before working in a doctor's office! All student nurses must complete the same education and pass State Boards; a nurse is a nurse. He or she can then work anywhere as an R.N. While some employers require work experience, many do not.

However, as well, most doctor's offices in the USA do not need and do not hire R.N.s for in office employment! Doctors can function quite well in the office with just Medical Assistants. Some doctors employ a Physician's Assistant. But hiring an R.N. for physician's offices would drastically increase their overhead, with paying an RN's salary, benefits, sick days, medical insurance, etc. It's probably been 30 years or longer since nurses were phased out of US physician offices. Most US nurses work in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, rehab centers, chemical dependency rehabs, etc., and in specialized areas.

What education is needed to become a doctor you are 13 and want to be a pediatrician what do you need to do to be one?

First of all, you should ake sure that this is what you want to do because becoming a doctor requires a lot of work and effort.

I recommend that you start volunteering at places like the hospital or work as a babysitter/etc to make sure you can really handle treating sick children.

If you do know that this is the job for you, study hard. Your high school grades will be very important. Make sure to take university level (or academic) courses throughout your high school years. You will probably need to complete 2 of grade 12 biology, chemistry, or physics therefore make sure you complete the necessary prerequisites for those courses. Also, math is very important. Advanced functions is usually required, and as well as calculus.

Before you can apply for med school, you usually need to complete a few years of an undergradate program in university. It is not uncommon for students to complete a bachelor's degree (which takes 4 years) before applying for med school because of the competition. After you have finished studying at a university, you may be required to write the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) by certain med schools. When you do get into med school, you are required to study an additional 4 years after which you will receive your M.D.

After med school, you will be need to complete another 4 years of a residency period (on the job training) in order to become a pediatrician. If you want to specialize even further (i.e. the field of pediatric cardiology), you will need to complete even more years of a residency period.

As you can see, becoming a pediatrician will be very difficult and time-consuming, but if this is what you really want to do (and not just because of the money), I wish you the best!
