How to remove and install a new starter?
(Also valid for 1998 model. //Scott C.) 09 April 2006 - Installed a new starter yesterday. Starter has 2 bolts holding it on the motor. Lift the hood and take off the air filter box blocking the view of the top bolt of the starter. After disconnecting the battery cables, take out the top bolt of the starter. From under the van, disconnect the cables to the starter. Take out the bottom bolt of the starter and it will back out from the motor. Don't let it fall on you! These new starters cost around $150.00 so, if you take it to a shop that rebuilds them, you can save a lot of money and most likely have a better starter than a "new" one. Most cars come with a "heavy duty" starter and parts stores usually don't give you that kind of a quality starter in return. //Master Sgt. Charles W. M.

How do you loosen the tensioner to replace the serpentine belt on Dodge Grand Caravan 2001?

How do you open a 1999 Dodge Durango liftgate if the latch is not working?
From the inside of your vehicle loosen the plastic covering the back hatch, the light will need to be removed temporarily, slide your hand in to lift up on the rod that is connected to the lock mechanism to unlock the hatch. This is a common Durango malady, which may be able to be rectified by lubricating the sliding lock mechanism. After lubrication, test operation with key and / or remote. Re-attach plastic covering.
You may want to check and see if it is just stuck... My 99 gets stuck all the time. I have to bang on the back with my shoulder into where the latch is and that usually dislodges it enough to get it to open. Also if you push on the gate as you lift the lever it may help....
**Once you have opened the hatch by pulling on the latch/rod from the inside, I found it handy to loop a 1" tie-down strap about a foot long over the lift-up part of the latch/rod and then feeding it under the plastic liner, and letting it hang out inside of the vehicle. It's not in the way, and is much handier than taking everything apart to open as described in the above paragraph. ***Not recommended if you have young children, as they may be able to open the liftgate while riding in the rear seats.
What size wipers to you need for a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan?
The 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan takes 28" wiper blades on both sides front and a 16" rear wiper. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
What is the max towing capacity of a 350?
I think he means an F350 you nubs... and it depends SRW or DRW, i have both and my max on receiver hitch is 12,000lbs, my fifth wheel on is 22,000(DRW) and 20,000(SRW) and my gooseneck is 30,000 both ways SRW and DRW cuz that is about the strongest hitch made is a gooseneck rated up to 32,000 and that's way pushing on a 350 anyways but my 350 can handle the full 27,ooo the gooseneck with add-a-leafs /w air ride supension helping. does that help you? I wouldn't recommend trying to pull that max on fifth wheel or gooseneck without major improvements on supension and of course your drivetrain a strong clutch, a good strong torque converter for your engine, etc. and ofcourse use of trailer brakes is the smartest choice, doesnt matter one bit if you can pull it if you cant stop it so yeah use trailer brakes. i have an engine made to pull, the 7.3L PSD wouldn't recommend any other diesel :)

How can you tell if the ball joints or struts are bad in a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan?
Let's check the struts since this can be partially diagnosed without placing the vehicle on special territory by that I mean be it a jack or lift. The strut is designed to allow the vehicle when hitting a bump or dip in the road to dip with it and then come right back up. You are going to mimick this procedure by doing what is called "jounce and rebound check". First, are you wanting to test all struts? It's recommended to ALWAYS replace them in pairs! Jounce and Rebound test.....standing by the bumper corners push down on the vehicle causing it to dip and do it a couple times to get the feel of hitting dips and then stand back and count how many times it goes up and down before it stops...1.5 times is the recommended jounce and rebound. Normally it's down and up and stop. Ocassionally a spring located on the strut gets weak it will cause your vehicle to sag and create extra work for the strut watch out for this.....
my $ .02Choppy wear in the tires, oil leaking from the struts or a bouncy ride may also be indications of weak struts. The 1998 caravans were also common for rot on the top of the strut tower, if not taken care of, they can shoot up into the hood. Most Ball joints are checked by grabbing the wheels in the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and pulling with one hand and pushing with the other, then reversing the push/ pull direction while feeling fo movement.

What kind of antifreeze goes in a 2001 grand caravan?
Dexcool or ornge antifreeze 5 year, red color, Hoat type, Not DEXCOOL.
I would be suspicious of the ignition module.Mine had same problem I replaced the plug wires and now all better. I had #2 cylinder misfire reporting on 1998 Ford Escort ZX2. I noted that I could force SES light to flash at high RPM also. (Flashing light indicates misfire in progress. Serious for engine.) Replacement of plugs and wires resolved the issue. This was well overdue, and plugs showed burn damage to electrodes. It also could be your fuel injectors going out. Id change plugs and wires first, and see if it helps. Does it always come on only when you get to 50? Or does it come on when you accelerate, say, going uphill?
