What is the mass of a new pencil?
This depends on the size, length, and type of pencil that you have. Different woods used to make the pencil have different densities, and so pencils that are the same size may have two completely different weights. Also, some pencils are cylinders while others are hexagonal prisms. This can affect the weight too.
The only thing I can say is weigh it on a very accurate and precise scale!

Draw a picture, then save it (save as). Now, change something about your picture (the face, eyes, arms, legs, etc.). Save that as another picture (save as again). Animating is basically many pictures played together to create an illusion of movement. Each picture is called a frame. Now, import your pictures into a video program (like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker). Put them in the order you want them to animate. now select all of those pictures and copy+paste them over and over. That will create an animation loop (your animation played over and over). Have fun animating! Make sure to save your video when you're happy with the length. Animating is a lot easier than it seems!
What is the importance of light and shade in drawing?
A plain white page is an example of the white. Take a pencil and draw a line. The only reason you can see the line is because it is different from the white of the page. That is the most simplistic answer possible. But, there is a range of possibilities of tone between pure white and total black - various shades of grey, for instance. Draw a vertical black line representing a wooden post. Such a post would cast a shadow if the sun was shining. The shadow cast would be a grey between the blackness of the post and the whiteness of the page.

What kind of drawing instruments are used in manual drawing?
Instruments; the types used to make a manual drawing. Firstly a drawing board is needed to draw the drawing, so it is at a angle making it easier (However some people don't like it but it does improve the drawing).
A engineering set square is needed to draw lines at a angle. A protractor is used to measure angles.
A typical protractor is a semi-circular piece of plastic with 180 degrees printed around its curve. This piece of equipment is not only used in graphics for constructing accurate drawings but is also used in subjects like Mathematics.
A compass is an absolute essential piece of equipment. It is well worth buying a good set which includes at least two compasses allowing the drawing of small and large circles. The drawing opposite is a 'bow' compass, this is used for drawing small circles very accurately. Cheap compasses tend to slip on the paper and break quite easily. A good, quality compass set will last a life time.
Drawing Pencils are a basic requirement of any graphics course. You need a number ranging from 2B to 2H. These letters refer to the hardness of the pencil lead. When sketching a soft lead such as 2B is can be used to produce quick drawings and shading. On the other hand , when drawing precisely a 2H or even a harder pencil such as a 4H is ideal. This type of pencil keeps its sharp edge for longer and produces very fine lines.

What cartoon character should you draw?
None! You should never draw a character that isn't yours unless you truly feel that it would be good practice for you (in some cases, it can be). To keep the creative flow going and to develop a growth in your skill and imagination, you should always excel and innovate and create your own original characters. Fan-art can be fun to draw and play with every now and then, but you probably won't learn from it. All you're doing is playing around with another person's story, and not your own.
Portrait drawing requires a fairly high skill set of both anatomical knowledge and drawing technique.
The first step in drawing a portrait is to first sketch in the outside shape of the head. The term for this is called both the contour and striking the arabesque. I prefer striking the arabesque as it implies a sense of rhythm and grace (terminology expresses intent).
This initial skill does require training and practice and can be acquired in a reasonably short period of time.
Once the arabesque is established correctly in terms of shape and proportion you can then place the major landmarks of the facial arena. These are the browridge, the base of the nose and the facial angle (or median line of the face).
There are now two paths to choose from: the tonal or the linear. Each has its own approaches: the tonal is an additive/subtractive process of constructing form (plasticity); the linear is an expressive/analytical endeavor.
An excellent site that I refer my students to who want a good foundation in portrait drawing is http://www.artacademy.com. This site offers a wide array of free, college level portrait drawing lessons.
"Disney credited animator Webb Smith with creating the idea of drawing scenes on separate sheets of paper and pinning them up on a bulletin board to tell a story in sequence, thus creating the first storyboard."

Where is a good website you can go to learn how to draw a Comanche Indian?
Photographs of genuine Comanche (Nemene) lodges show that the majority were completely undecorated, except for being blackened at the top by smoke from the central fire. This is true of most Plains tribes - decorated tipis were extremely rare (perhaps accounting for less than 5 in every 100) and signified the lodge of a powerful chief or medicine man, or the holder of a sacred pipe or medicine bundle.
For that reason there is almost no detailed information on the Internet about Comanche tipi decoration, and very little published in books. The artist and explorer George Catlin painted a single picture showing a painted Comanche tipi - this was certainly the home of the keeper of a sacred pipe, since one is featured in the painted design (see link below).
If you want to draw an accurate picture of a genuine and typical Comanche tipi, then make it perfectly plain and undecorated apart from blackening around the top of the cover to represent smoke staining.
What are the challenges or being an illustrator?
Will a sharpie come out of a T-shirt in the washing machine?
Use ALCOHOL to remove Sharpie. The sooner the better. The alcohol will spread the ink, so focus on removing the bulk of the ink in the area it is located. It is usually beneficial to backup the stained area with a dry cotton ball then use another cotton ball soaked with alcohol to wash the ink. As mentioned, this will spread the ink so depending on how well you perform this process will determine if you will need to wash the entire garment in alcohol. (Rubber gloves may be in order since the alcohol will also dry your fingers)
Can you get led poisoning from a pencil?
No, modern pencils contain graphite (not lead) and therefore you cannot get lead poisoning from them. Also, yes because if you can find a pencil with lead still in it you can get lead poisioning.....(obviously)
The term abstract refers to an artist making an abstraction of something in the real world. Often people confuse abstract with non-representational art (an image that is not representative of anything in the real world). The most recognized are works by Picasso, but there are other methods of creating abstract images. Art comes in many mediums, drawing is only one.

What is meant by over dimensioning a sketch?
You are putting too many dimensions on it. For example, if there is a L shaped sketch and you dimension from the bottom of the L to just above the horizontal part, and then you dimension the vertical part from the end point of the last dimension you'd be okay. But, if you dimensioned both of those lengths and then the total length you would be over dimensioning the sketch.
