They will slow you computer down, and will make you more likely to become infected with more dangerous viruses and spyware. They are called Trojans after the Battle of Troy. The enemies hid inside a horse statue. The Trojans brought this into the city, thinking it was a gift and not knowing they were bringing their enemies inside. The enemies got out, slew the guards at the gate, and then let the rest of the soldiers inside. This applies to software since someone may give you a free game or something, and you don't know there is a computer virus inside or a program designed to damage or steal your computer files.
If you mean in the body, perhaps they are the ones that inhabit cells for a while (incubation period) before attacking. They can have an incubation period from anywhere to a few days to a few years.

The IED.EXE file is stored in a CAB (compressed cabinet file) usually held in the tempory internet files folder. Because the file is stored within another, Norton cannot repair or delete the file. Removal is simply a case of locating the CAB file specified by Norton and deleting it. I recently had my W98 box upgraded to XP Pro SP2. During this process I also had most of my old files transferred over. I guess one of these must have been infected bacause after running Norton AV (latest virus pack), it found the infected file "ied.exe" in a cabinet file "ied_s7m.cab" in the root directory of my c: drive. Yes, Norton could not fix, quarantine, or delete this file,..so I did what seems to be the concensus,..I deleted it. (I took a route that also seems to have some support, rather than just draging and dropping,..I started up in safe-mode, then dragged and dropped it,....which in retrospect doesn't any different than doing it during a usual startup) Haven't had any problems as of yet, i.e., the .cab file doesn't seem to be necessary nor is it linked with the registry in some way that my deleting it is causing problems....

Trojan Dropper is a backdoor Trojan computer virus. This means that once the Trojan infects your computer, it opens a security home (or "backdoor"), which can then be used by remote hackers to access your private information and download large amounts of adware onto your computer. Moreover, Trojan Dropper will slow your computer and generate pop-ups. Fortunately, the Trojan can be removed manually before causing irreparable damage.

Via Internet Explorer....stop using it!
=> Switch to using Linux, like Ubuntu. It is much safer than any Microsoft
products. Microsoft operating systems are faulty by design; they were
never intended to be plugged into Internet. The Linux is a network native
operating system, which takes much knowledge from the UNIX lineage,
which is the pioneering, good operating system. Microsoft's are not
secure.
You can get rid of this tojan dropler virus by following these steps

If a virus persists on a PC even after formatting it is likely that the virus has been inserted into the boot sector of the hard drive - which is not rewritten when you re-format it.
Assuming you are running a Microsoft OS, to fix it, boot using the install CD for the OS and run the first Repair option which will load the Recovery Console from a ramdisk (and doesn't use the hard drive for booting). This requires that your BIOS supports booting from the CD drive. Then run the 'fixboot' command. This is supposed to overwrite the boot sector. You may have to specify the drive letter of which partition to fix.

I represent Billings Information Technology Service. We have run a thorough test on this software and determined it to be a "Scam" and more importantly, a program that give false positives as well as injects code into the computer, so that it can then detect it as a Trojan.
TEST COMPUTER
New Toshiba Tecra A11 S3510
Symantec Internet Security 2010
Results: Symantec did not detect the download itself as a threat. However after installing, I ran the "Scan" from within Loaris which produced some interesting results. First, it detected safe files such as Autorun.inf in the Windows directory as a threat and systray.exe, 000StTHK.exe. More importantly, it introduced tmp.edb and log.txt, threats it detected as Trojans. Interesting enough, log.txt, a file that is locked and created by Loaris Trojan Remover.
Reminds me of the car mechanic that was hired to fix the engine and introduced other problems to ensure the client would pay for services that weren't needed. Also reminds me when BB got slammed for diagnosing a computer problem as a motherboard replacement when all that was needed to be done was to plug in the IDE cable.
Scam is too nice of a word.
