Setting up Thunderbird to receive GmailWhile it is free to set up gmail POP client it is not free for yahoo. So to set up gmail all you have to do is sign into your gmail account and go to "Settings" in the top right hand corner of the screen. Then go to the "Forwarding and POP" tab. Then select the option "Enable POP for all mail", if you want to download all of your messages including archived messages. You can also just select "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on". Now just click "Save Changes" and you are done with the first part of the set up.

The next part of the set up will be to configure Thunderbird. Open Thinderbird and go to File > New > Account... Next select "Gmail", click next and enter your name and gmail address(note: you do not have to enter the "@gmail.com" part of the address just your username). Click next and you should come to a summary and an option that you can select if you want to download all of your gmail messages. Select the option if you wish and click "Finish" . You will then be asked to enter your gmail.com password, but note that you can select an option to remember your password otherwise you will have to enter the password everytime you send and receive mail. So select that option if you wish and hit enter.

If you followed all the steps correctly you should be done. Now all you have to do is test it by sending an email to your yahoo email address.

Why use email to send an attachment to someone when the attachment file can be transmitted using FTP?

FTP/Email Files

FTP is the protocol for exchanging files over the Internet. FTP is most commonly used to download or upload files from or to an internet server. You will need an FTP application and you can download them: Fetch for Macintosh, and for Windows use WinZip or WS_FTP. (These applications usually have a 30-day trial period and then you can decide whether to purchase it or not). FTP is preferred when files get large because they will upload much faster than through email and FTP can handle much larger files.

Sending large attachments through email can be problematic. Some corporate email servers do not allow email attachments to guard against possible viruses, or an outgoing server may have a limit on the size of an attachment. Go to customer support:

Pick the service you want to email (you cant email a general customer service person, only specialized by service.)

Then use the drop-down that says "Email Us About" and then choose a subject from that drop-down and the form will come up.
