What is the importance of integral calculus in the field of engineering?

Most complex engineering problems cannot be solved without calculus. Force related problems are a great example - how else would you calculate the force exerted on a particle a specific distance from an electrically charged wire?

What is the difference between water injection and water flooding?

I do not think that there is any difference. Petroleum engineers normally inject water into an oil reservoir to maintain the reservoir pressure (and hence the ability of the reservoir to pump oil to the surface). In the process and if the water injection wells are properly located, the injected water normally sweeps (pushes out) out more oil effectively flooding the reservoir and increasing the amount of oil that is recovered from the reservoir. This incremental oil will otherwise be left behind in the reservoir. Hence, in an oil reservoir where the natural aquifer is large and strong enough to maintain the reservoir pressure, water injection is unlikely to significantly increase the oil recovery from the reservoir.

Is there an equation that addresses how pressure psi affects flow cfm through a fixed orifice?

yes, the pressure is directly related to the effective force acting on the fluid body, so from the pressure differential you can compute the effective force on a small mass of fluid in the orifice, which can then be translated into a flux integral, which can be solved for Volume/time.

How the power is increases in gas turbine by adding fuel?

Very simply, more fuel burned, more power output. This applies to any combustion engine.

What is the effect of back charging of 250MVA 15.75KV 240KV generator transformer and how many times one can back charge the generator transformer?

Generator Transformer back-charging is done because of the following reasons:-

1. To ensure the healthiness of Generator transformer after performing all the transformer related tests before synchronising with the grid.

2. To ensure all the protections of transformer before putting it into actual operation.

3. To check the polarity, ratio & connections of transformer.

4. To check all the PTs & CTs in circuit & their availability to the relays for protection & metering.

5. To check Voltage level & polarity at LAPT.

6. To perform change-over operation checks of UATs & the tie breakers with main breakers.

Since all the protection system related to relays acts in the same way for forward & reverse power, we check the availabilty of each equipment before final synchronisation with the grid.

What part of a filet weld that can be convex or concave?

The 'face' of the weld may be slightly convex, flat, or slightly concave.

Definition of face left and face right observation?

Face left observation(In theodolite survey):

If the face of the vertical circle is to the left of the observer, the observation of the angle is known as Face left observation

Face Right observation(In theodolite survey):

If the face of the vertical circle is to te right of the observer, the observation of the angle is known as Face right observation

What was the technology like in the eighteen hundreds?

Many technological advances occurred in this century, especially in the second half.

Here are some highlights.

  1. Steam engines become quite reliable - steam ships crossed oceans and steam locomotives pulled trains . Railroads connected the US from coast to coast.
  2. Telegraphs and later telephones changed the world of communication. A trans-Atlantic telegraph cable connected the US with Europe.
  3. Electric lights and electric companies and electrical service to homes came into being.
  4. Electric street cars appeared in cities
  5. Oil and natural gas wells were sunk and oil and gas became important sources of fuel.
  6. The gasoline engine was developed and gasolene cars appeared late in the century.
  7. Ice-making machines led to ice-houses which sold ice all year round.
  8. Photography came into existence.
  9. The linotype machine greatly simplified setting type for printing.

What is a coolant in a CNC machine?

A coolant is used to keep the tool tip cool. Keeping the tool tip cool prolongs the life of the tip ensuring the accuracy and consistence of the machined component.

Coolants are mixed with water and are anti-corrosive. If correctly mixed, it will not cause corrosion to any of the machine's parts.

How many engineers does a company need?

It depends upon the nature and capacity of the company.

Why does a plane needs a vertical stabilizer?

to maintain its position in air otherwise it will go out of control.

What is the role of judiciary in Science and Technology?

The Judicial Branch of government plays no role whatsoever in the fields of science and technology unless, or until, a legal question or suit of some kind referencing those spheres is brought before it.

What processor begins fetching a second instruction before it completes the machine cycle for the first instruction?

almost all modern computers do this (the exceptions are typically simple microcontrollers ). various methods can be used:

  • prefetch
  • pipelining
  • caches
  • etc.
The first computer to do this was the IBM 7030 Stretch transistorized supercomputer introduced in 1961 (it had no integrated circuits at all in it). It used a combination of prefetch, pipelining, and caches to do this.

One computer that I used that implemented prefetch (without pipelining, caches, or other mechanisms) to an extreme was the Delco Magic V implementation of the MIL-STD-1750A architecture. It had a prefetch unit with a FIFO buffer that could store roughly 20 instructions before they were needed by the address evaluation and operand read unit which had another FIFO buffer which could store roughly 20 instructions their operands and the address to store the results to before they were needed by the execution unitwhich had yet another FIFO buffer which could store roughly 20 results and the address to store those results tobefore they were needed by the memory storage unit. In all roughly 60 instructions could be held waiting to be processed between prefetch and storage of results to memory. Multiple levels of scoreboard synchronization logic were used to prevent the prefetch unit and address evaluation and operand read unit from accessing memory or registers pending modification by the memory storage unit or execution unit.

Well planner salary in oil field?

I've employed Well Planners for 15 years. The current rate I use is for a junior WP (relevant degree and 0-2 yr exp.) start at $90,000 - $120,000.

For a Senior WP (5+ yr exp.) $160,000 - $200,000.

Some have stepped up faster to the intermediate level (~$140,000) region in under 2 years however usually they'll be working alone and be doing Torque and Drag, Hydraulics, EOWRs, BHA Trend Analysis etc with little supervision.

How do you set the G54-G59 Offsets on oi-t series Fanuc controller?

If you are using a probe to set offsets, plug your probe results from Fanuc point probing macro G65P9100. Values from this macro are placed in the following variable by the point probing macro: #125 for X, #126 for Y, and #127 for Z. These can be used to set your G55 thru G59 offset directly or the values can be stored in #900 series write-able variables for doing calculations such as averaging, checking squareness, flatness, etc... The variables that set G55 are as follows. Example for X #5241=#125, for Y #5242=#126, for Z #5243=#127. Add 20 for each coordinate offset after that, IE: #5261, #5262, #5263 for G56, #5281, #5282, #5283 for G57 and so on.
