Has anyone experienced a medium size ring in the uterus with no fetus and no heartbeat during the first ultrasound shortly before a miscarriage?

Hi... my friend went through this previously. She took a home pregnancy test, it was positive. When she went in for an ultrasound, they said there was no baby in there, only a sac. She thought that they were crazy, so she got a 2nd opinion...same thing. The doctor told her it would pass naturally. But beware... when she called me and she was passing it, I rushed to her house and she was completely incoherent and had lost way too much blood. I called an ambulance and they took her in for surgery. All I can say, is while yes it is weird it is also possible, but please make sure you call someone if you suspect something unusual. This is a fairly common finding before a miscarriage. The embryo does not develop so the placenta is miscarried.
