What concentration of oxygen should be used In Resuscitation?
There are two main concerns when using oxygen on new born babies. One is oxygen toxicity, the other is meeting the babies oxygen requirements.
On one hand, oxygen can actually be toxic, especially to pre-term babies from 32 weeks gestation and lower. High FiO2's(fraction of inspired oxygen) may even cause blindness (ROP), and Intracerebral bleeds (ICH). Secondly, the baby must have sufficient O2 to meets its bodies demands.
I told you this so you know there is a difference in term newborn, and pre-term, oxygenation requirements. So, the simple answer to a complicated scenario is, apply the minimum FiO2 that will address the babies requirements. This is called oxygen titration.
Would it harm you to swallow a daddy longlegs?
Just one? No. While it's possible that you have an allergic reaction that could be serious, there isn't a lot of mass to a daddy longlegs, and it's not a common allergy. So, unless that hihgly unlikley allergy shows up, you're safe. Just don't do it too much! :}

What happens when a person chokes?
If food or liquid passes through trachea instead of passing through food tube or esophagus, choking occurs. Ask the person whether he chokes or not, if he answers that allow him to cough and get his wind pipe cleared. If he nods/gestures for your question, then you need to try Heimlich maneuver, a life saving technique otherwise the person will become unconscious and death may occur.
What do you wear when you have a sprained ankle?
If the ankle is twisted then you should apply a cold pack or ice to the ankle. And an important thing to remember is if you twist your ankle whilst wearing boots with ankle support, you should try and leave the boot on as it will be containing the swelling; and taking it off could cause further swelling.

[We have two differnet opinions here -- give us a couple of days to work this out. In the mean time find more info in the DISCUSSION section.] [[User:Cjonb|Cjonb]] 02:34, 11 Aug 2008 (UTC)~ Whoa! Not sure where this question comes from, but you don't administer chest compressions to a patient who has a pulse. Period. This is regardless of state of consciousness. With a choking victim who can make no noise, don't start rescue breathing them if you KNOW it's choking -- go straight into Heimlich Manuver (which can include abdominal thrust). If they can't breathe, you can't breathe them usually. FIRST clear the obstruction. Note that, if the victim is choking due to an obstruction, you won't be able to get air into them, and that would be why the chest did not rise. If you aren't giving them air, rescue breathing is not working. Move on to another strategy right smartly. -------- the American heart ass. states in an unconsciousness adult that is unable o be ventilated (despite 2 attempts to reposition the airway) begin chest comprestions to force out the obstruction. as to why.... got me --------- If you aren't getting air into the victim, the heartbeat doesn't matter -- there's no oxygen in the bloodstream to circulate. Also, compressing a beating heart induces an arrythmia, and may stop the heart. The focus of the rescue has to be to open that airway and get some oxygen in. Abdominal thrust is all about that; chest compressions are not. I can't find any posting on the AHA site or anywhere else that states what you mention. Please note link. Also, note that I mean no personal offense. If I sound vehement it's because this kind of misunderstanding can at times turn lethal. If you did find such a link, please let me know the URL and I'll be glad to call AHA and let them know their mistake, so they can correct it. but you are quite offensive. i make my living as a paramedic. i am beyond quailfied in forigen body airway obstruction. and good luck with your phone calls. here is the link and most notably the following exerpt: If the adult victim with FBAO becomes unresponsive, the rescuer should carefully support the patient to the ground, immediately activate EMS, and then begin CPR. A randomized trial of maneuvers to open the airway in cadavers273 and 2 prospective studies in anesthetized volunteers274,275 show that higher sustained airway pressures can be generated using the chest thrust rather than the abdominal thrust (LOE 7). Each time the airway is opened during CPR, the rescuer should look for an object in the victim's mouth and remove it. Simply looking into the mouth should not increase the time it takes to attempt the ventilations and proceed to the 30 chest compressions. http://circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/112/24_suppl/IV-19
Administer the CANA last (after the use of up to the 3 sets of two autoinjectors) to minimize convulsions in the casualty.

Because sometimes accidents happen in the dark...
Like if you're on a camping trip and you get mauled by a bear in the dark. You can take out a flashlight and- well, um- take care of yourself.
And, during any natural disaster, inevitably, electrical power will be lost. And, inevitably, night will come. No one wants to be in the dark in unsafe situations. Don't forget to replace batteries on a regular basis.

What do you need inside a first aid kit?
The most common types of injuries in a gym environment are going to be sprains, strains and twists to joints, muscles and ligaments. The more serious injuries will include things like broken bones, head injuries, lacerations / punctures or crushed limbs.
Even more serious injuries can occur, of course - but in general, you aren't going to be doing anything more in a gym environment than keeping the scene clear, stopping bleeding and doing CPR if qualified and the situation demands. First-responders and trained people might also apply splints and treat for shock - but any injury for which no trained person is present to treat should be reported to 911 immediately (especially head trauma, back injuries, broken bones or any loss of consciousness).
At a minimum, your gym's first aid kit should contain:

Does it hurt when you break your finger?
Unless the finger is significantly deformed from a fracture, bone ends are protruding or palpable, or you can detect crepitus (and DON'T test for this intentionally!), you need imagery to accurately tell if a finger is broken or badly sprained. If you're asking yourself this question, it's a good idea to get it looked at. If it's not broken, they'll still treat it, which is not always super easy to do well yourself. If it IS broken, the orthopedic team can make and implement decisions about how to let your finger heal in a way that maximizes the chance you'll retain full range of motion and sensation. For first aid, immobilize the finger in such a way that it won't be hurt more. This may require splinting or taping it to the finger next to it. Guidelines are: * Dont make it worse -- be REALLY gentle. * If the movement hurts the patient, STOP. * Tape or splint in the position you found the finger -- don't try to straighten it out. * If you need to splint, consider padding the splint for comfort. * Elevate the limb -- you can also ice it (place in ice water 5-10 minutes, then out -- stop if it gets uncomfortable) IF the skin is not broken. * Once taped, make sure there is circulation below the tape -- make sure the finger doesn't turn white or purple, or get really cold (before icing it of course). * If there is indication of a loss of circulation, this problem just became an emergency -- get to a hospital fast.
Will tampons give you an infection?
YES TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME Okay, this person is a little bit over the top ^. Using a tampon has been associated with TSS but if you take it out within 6-8 hours of putting it in, you SHOULD be fine, although there is always a chance, but although it is a serios illenss, it is also very rare.
Do you give water when giving first aid?
It dépends, if the victim is thirsty and able to drink alone, give him or her a glass of water.
When doing first aid, be logical : if the victim is conscious, he feels where it hurts, what he needs. The victim will place himself in a comfurtable position. Do not take decision for him (or her). For example, a victim has a heart attack, he or she may need a particular drug, if he (or she) asks you to find the pills, give them to him but do not help him (or her) to have it.
The most important you can do is to call for a medical assistance, and to protect the victim (and yourself) from any danger.
Of course, learning cardiac massage, and assited ventilation could be helpful when someone is uncounscious. But, it will never be repeated enough : the first thing to do is to call.
A sunburn is a first degree burn. As painful as being scalded with hot water and just as damaging to the flesh killing the cells of several layers of skin cells. When skin cells die they dry and flake off and we usually never even notice. 90% of the dust in a home is comprised of dead skin cells of the occupants. Dandruff is also nothing more than dead skin cells. When you get a sunburn, the body stops supplying those cells with nutrients. The tender flesh beneath is still in close proximity to blood capillaries and nerve tissues. Standard secretion of sweat and skin oils help to push away and shed the damaged and dead skin cells when it is ready. That is what causes the peeling. It's usually better to let the skin peel naturally, so the tender flesh beneath isn't exposed until it is ready.
