What does it mean if the check engine light of a 2002 Ford Focus is still on after having the oil changed?

Go to auto zone and have the codes read for free. They will also look up the meaning of the code for you, but be careful about taking their advice on how to fix the problem. If you have an older Focus, buy a code reader on eBay for approx. $50.00 USD. (OBD-II) because you will need it a lot. The Check Engine light is always related to something in the emissions control system, e.g., a bad sensor, a leaky vacuum hose, etc. Other auto parts stores may also read the codes from the computer for free. Do not pay a mechanic just to read the code. You can try clearing the code from the computer and waiting to see if it comes back. The computer connection port is below the steering wheel, to the left, behind a little plastic cover.

AnswerAutozone is NOT the answer.

Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active.

How do you remove a broken key from an ignition?

Locksmiths have a tool that is basically a hooked piece of thin wire.

I had a broken key in the lock that i had to remove so i used a very thin piece of wire and made a small 90 degree bend in it. The idea is to slide the wire (hooked end) along the key and get to the end of the key and get the bent end of the wire hooking the tip of the key. Then simply pull the broken end of the key out. In effect you are using a small, long fishhook to get the key out.

Use a pair of pliars to bend the wire. Remember that the wire has to be thin and fairly strong. Coat hanger and bailing wire is much too thick.

While breaking the lock, if the lock was damaged then you may have to replace the lock. The key may be jammed in too tightly.

Where is the radiator drain plug located on your 2000 Ford Focus ZX3?

There is a screw that you loosen on the driver side on the inside (towards the engine) that you turn to drain the radiator. WE didn't think there was one but then we found it.

How do you adjust the handbrake on a ford focus?

Using a flat head screwdriver very carefully flick the console part of the hand brake from the centre to the front and very gently prise it up or trust me the plastic console part will break the back part does lift up with a little persuasion with the screw driver , the adjuster nut can be found on the right side of the hand break at the rear of the unit remove the locking washer and with a 13 mm open ended spanner or long reach socket tighten clockwise the adjuster nut with the hand brake off but with the vehicle in gear to prevent rolling away. every two or three turns apply your foot on the break peddle . let the car roll and apply the hand break this should stop the vehicle on the third click to a full stop . the next click ie; number 4 is the piece of mind click take off the hand break and allow vehicle to roll to check for break bind ,it should be free .

Fit all that has been removed gently and away you go if unlike me you have not broken the console gaitor then you should be proud .

How do you replace a door handle on a 2000 ford focus?

in order to replace the handle, you must first take off the door panel. This will require a torque bit. ( kind of looks like a star ) to remove the panel you need to remove all the screws around the bottom of the door. Then isung a flat bladed screw driver, pop out the central door grip, and the screw tab behind the interior door handle. remove those screws. now just lift the panel straight up.

Next you have to remove the foam padding. this is easy, it should just pop off the clips that are holding it.

next you need to remove the liner from behind the door handle. note (don't completely remove the liner, you still need to put it back.) all that's left is to remove the screws holding the handle to the car. ( if your replacing the entire assembly then remove both screws.) if you only need to install a new handle, just unscrew the left screw, ( this is the screw that you need to take the rubber seal off of the door to get at.) that will release the guard over the key hole. remove the guard then pull the handle sideways towards the lock. It should release. (if your handle broke, then the procedure is reversed.)

Finally all that's left is to re-install everything.

good luck. hope this helps.

How do you remove the rear light cover in order to replace the turn signal bulb in a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3?

When you open the hatchback look behind where the light is and you will see a small hole. Unscrew the screw that it is there. You also need to unscrew another screw that is beside the light on the outside (top right). Then you just pull the whole light assembly off the car. Next disconnect the wire from the back of the light bulb assembly. Next, twist the light bulb assemble and pull it out. You now have access to the bulb.

Why is your Ford Focus overheating?

There are SO many possibilities. Low coolant level - blocked radiator - radiator cooling fan(s) failing to come on (this cant be the issue as the car is travelling at high speeds - fans shouldn't need to come on anyway) - failed water pump. It could be any one, or a combination of several of these factors. Have to do a little more checking. Good luck.

--------------------------------------------------

The Focus is very susceptible to overheating when there's not enough air passing through the radiator.

Check the fan fuses (fusebox in the engine compartment and well marked on the cover).

There's also a recurring problem with the fan low-speed 'resistor' that is mounted in the center of the fan assembly, and easily accessible. The problem is that the electric connector melts and loses contact.

This video is one of the best I've seen and has everything you need to know to check it, and make the replacement: h t t p s://youtu.be/fIvhgYHftWQ

Note: RockAuto.com and Amazon had the best prices for the parts.

If the car temp runs normal for about a mile or 2 but then 'spikes', check the thermostat.

In all my 40 years of tinkering with cars, I've only had a couple of truly failed thermostats, and my Focus was one of them.

One last item - if you have a mystery leak, nothing obvious but you're always having to top off the reservoir tank... check the tank itself! These are known to develop small (almost microscopic) cracking the bottom of the tank.

Tanks are readily available after-market, and a quick replacement project.

Is there any way other than waiting for a thaw to free up a rear wheel that is locked due to freezing following a car wash and e brake?

Rear brake frozen. Assuming you do not have a heat source, small heater to aim at it for a while. If not that, I would think you could use some windshield deicer. I assume you do not have disc brakes on the back. There should be an access plug on the back of the wheel plate. On the back side it is usually an oval rubber plug at the top or bottom, varies car to car. Spray the deicer in up or down and I would think this might do it. Depending on age of vechicle, the cable running to the brake may be the problem.
