Not sure what year you are working but generally you would start by removing the trim around the door handle. A putty knife works well for releasing the tabs. Then comes the screws which hold the arm res in place followed by several screws near bottom of panel. Idealy, you have a tool for removing the plastic inserts that hold the panel to the door, but a wide blade screwdriver can be used if done carefully. Then it is disconnect the wires on the backside of the panel. These can be tricky, but usually you can see where to squeeze to release them.

My 2002 Yukon XL emergency brake cable just shredded this week. The cable is only a couple feet long and connects the release latch to a lever just above the emergency brake pedal (while depressed). The lever can be manually released by hand but be careful to guard your face as it could be in the path of the rising brake pedal. It may require 2 or 3 manual trips of the lever to get the brake pedal released to the highest position.
I am still trying to determine where I can buy a replacement cable (other than GMC dealer) and whether I can replace it myself.

If you have one of thses in the basr of the arm you'll see it) using a block of wood between the glass and part of the wiper arm that in pressed onto the armature you use a prying tool to lift the base from the arnature. The base is spring loaded so watch out; it'll jump when releasing.

Just completed this job. You'll need to remove the HVAC control head, not too hard a job...just remove dash trim, pull control head by releasing side tabs, remove electrical connections at the rear. Once out of the dash, there is a black switch that sits behind the blower speed control. there's plastic piece that must be removed before you can remove the switch. replace and reinstall. You should be able to find the replacement part on Amazon for $15 or so. Good luck.
