What kind of poison will get rid of a groundhog?

There are many items on the market to kill groundhog including trapping and releasing them. I'd rather kill them outright ... after years of dealing with them, they have destroyed and chewed through my cedar fence, they destroy everything in the yard, I have a huge backyard and I no longer plant ANYTHING...these animals eat flowers, vegetables all of it...I too love animals, don't get me wrong but when groundhogs are destroying my property you better believe it's a problem...there are holes in my yard and my dogs have fallen in...I have used the poison smoke which works extremely well for the young groundhogs but you must do it at night or early evening when they are all underground enjoying a nap. I was able to kill all the young groundhogs. The adults are tough. It looks like I will be trapping those because the poison hasn't worked and besides I have dogs. I know some of you are besides yourself but unless you live in a hut with no running water and electricity and strictly eat plants and wash your hair with just water I don't want to hear it...we ALL leave a carbon footprint behind and pests are a nuisance. I assume you won't kill roaches either?

Do wood chucks eat wood?

if they are not hurting your house then just leave them. they are doing you no harm & that is their home just as much as yours. What can you feed a groundhog?

Groundhogs in the wild eat succulent green plants, such as dandelion greens, clover, plantain and grasses. They also are tempted by nearby garden vegetables. At Cornell, they dine on Agway Woodchuck Chow, a similar formulation to rabbit feed but in larger-sized pellets. Woodchucks binge and purposefully put on weight in the summer, reaching their maximum mass in late August. They become lethargic and prepare for hibernation in October. By February, hibernating woodchucks have lost as much as half their body weight.

What to put around marigolds so groundhogs won't eat marigolds?

Groundhogs can be a small nuisance to a big problem. This usually depends on the amount of critters you have in your area. I have used "critter ridder" I got from The Home Depot and it works fine.

As for plant choices, gardeners have told me that groundhogs usually don't bother flowers like: cleome, nasturtiums, calendula, orange cosmos, impatients, California poppy, coreopsis, ageratum, and alyssum.

Another ideas is to try a trap. The trap usually doesn't work if a large amount of food is available.

I've tried cayenne pepper mixed with baby oil and poured it over areas groundhogs have been seen.

Are woodchucks nocturnal?

Groundhogs are one of the few species that enter into true hibernation, and often build a separate "winter burrow" for this purpose. This burrow is usually in a wooded or brushy area and is dug below the frost line and remains at a stable temperature well above freezing during the winter months. In most areas, groundhogs hibernate from October to March or April, but in more temperate areas, they may hibernate as little as 3 months. To survive the winter, they are at their maximum weight shortly before entering hibernation. They emerge from hibernation with some remaining body fat to live on until the warmer spring weather produces abundant plant materials for food.

Do gophers come out at night?

Not for most. Except the blucose de clomust, commonly found New England, they stay for a while, then they fly into a burrows and sleep all winter.
