Bear in mind that not all products expire. Table salt, honey, dried grains and various other things do not expire. Anything that has a limited shelf life should have an expiration date marked on the package, but if it doesn't, you will just have to observe any visible or odorous sign of deterioration.

Some products dont have dates on them but codes that have to be figured out. I know that Hersey uses letters and numbers. For example 1H means it expires 2011 August. I wish the government would make them put actual dates on the product so we didnt have to do all this research.
