You have good hearing. Most TV's (tube type) will emit a 60 hz. buzz as well as a 15,734 hz. whine from the set. The loudness varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and age can also be a contributing factor.

It seems that once someone `tunes in' to these noises, they are always aware of them from that point on. Personally, I can't go into a store that has a lot of TV's running because the noise eminating from them becomes piercing to my ears, and after a few minutes I have to leave or deal with a splitting headache if I've been exposed long enough.

You aren't hearing things. Those noises are there with tube type TV's, and the LCD/plasma TV's have a set of noises all their own too.
