You should leave it in for 4 hours at least. If you put it in for 8 hours, then all the lice will have died.

The chemicals in the pool won't effect the lice. It will take a lot more than that. I recommend buying a shampoo specifically for getting lice out. If that doesn't work, you should talk to your doctor or something. The lice cling onto your hair shaft and don't let go even if your underwater. Lice are passed by direct contact of one person with another--using the same comb, hat, etc. The best thing is to make sure you do not share a towel after swimming. Pool water makes no difference: the nits are glued into the hair, and only heat (like 150 degree hot water) can make a difference in that case. Pool chemicals are unlikely to make any difference at all.

you can buy special shampoo at the pharmacy in New Zealand but it takes quite a long time. I mean i got them when i was 3 and i still have them. the maximum time takes about ten years or more (but that's only if you hardly really do anything to them) but if not then about 5-6 years.

You have to take strands of hair & look at your scalp. Head lice attach themselves & lay their eggs just a little away from your actual scalp & stay on strands of hair. You can check for the eggs, which will be white if hatched, & brown/gray for those that didn't. If they move easily when you brush it with your finger, it is not head lice. If it is hard to move, & stays in place, it is likely to be nits (the eggs).

Yes you can. If you touch yourself after you hands have been in the hair or you make head to head or hair to item contact the risk of transmission is there. If you follow a sanitation protocol like the one that Lice Squad Canada uses you will not get lice nit picking. I know because I have been doing this for over 10 years and have never contracted head lice.

no! you should try and actually avoid excessive scratching because too much may cause a secondary skin infection or a rash.. the best thing to do is buy an anti itch remedy.. the dandruff ones are ok to use

No. The itching is the by product of the lice. You need to go to the drug store and by a shampoo just for killing lice. You will have to use it several times before you get them all.
