What happened when Muslims moved into the area around Jerusalem?

Nothing in particular. The arrival of Muslims in the areas around the city did not have any significant effect on Jerusalem and its organization. A far greater change occurred when the Muslims actually began to rule the city, because they reorganized the social hierarchy and they built the Dome of the Rock Shrine and the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City.

What gun do the taliban use?

Well for the most part the Taliban's weapon of choice is theAK-47, some left by the Soviets during the Soviet-Afghan War. Some Soviet weapons were also provided by the US Government (By way of semi Soviet Friendly States like Egypt in secret at the time) and some insurgents were even known to use British Lee Enfeild Rifles that were nearly a century old, but that was before they got they're hands on the Soviets SVD-Dragunov Sniper Rifles). The Soviet RPG-7 is used as an anti-tank weapon, (as well as a few Stinger Rocket Launchers used for ant-air atacks very rarley now though, as they were provided by the US during the Soviet-Afghan War). RPK Machine Guns have also been found in Taliban hideouts. However more recently, newer versions of these soviet weapons (or cheap clone copies of them) have been smuggled in from Iran. Chinese-Soviet clone assault rifles have also been found in the hands of the Taliban. But basically...what they're using for the most part is any old standard Soviet equipment that Eastern Bloc countries used. That and whatever improvised explosives they could make (but IED's are more commonly used in Iraq).

Hope that helps,

-Krys

Actually, they primarily use the akm-a steel pressing version; the ak-47 used a solid piece of steel for the body (lightens the weight by about 1 1/2 kilos), as well as the ak-74-a 5.45 mm derivative. Ever seen an ak with an orange magazine??? There's your ak-74)) Also, don't forget light machine guns like the RPK, DP-46, DPG and RPK-74))

I've seen 7.62x54 PK machine guns(and variants/clones/later models) in the hands of Taliban. Also, they use DShK heavy machine guns and other heavy Soviet heavy machine guns and anti-aircraft guns.

Answer 1

A star and crescent in some design or the other was symbology found in much of the ancient world. During the 19th century, the current design was adopped by the Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire was a high point in Muslem power so many Muslem groups adopted it.

Answer 2

The crescent moon and star has nothing related to Islam religion. It is just a political symbol that was used by the Ottoman people and used by some countries in their political flags. It is not a Muslim religious symbol as the cross in Christianity or Davis star in Judaism.

The Second Crusade took place from 1147-1149. It began after Muslim Turks recaptured one of the Crusader states. This crusade ended in defeat for the Crusaders largely because the French and German armies failed to work together.

How did Islam come to Africa south of the Sahara Desert?

There is a problem in that this question assumes that "Islam", a religion/concept/ideology, etc. can have its own agency. "Islam" is only extant at the will of its believers, so we can answer how Islam made it to Africa, but assert no existential reason "why Africa was chosen" or something similar, since Islam did no choosing.

Islam was first brought to Africa (Egypt specifically) by the Islamic conquests under the Rightly-Guided Caliphate. The successor Umayyad Caliphate conquered all of North Africa from 640-680 C.E. and brought the religion with them as they conquered. In some areas, especially the urban centers, conversion to Islam occurred rapidly (100-200 years) but in the rural areas, conversion was generally slower. There were only a few attempts in the first 300 years of Islam in North Africa to convert people to Islam by force.

As for Sub-Saharan Africa, Islam was originally brought and spread by Arab and Amazigh traders from North Africa. Their educated nature and good disposition led to the peaceful conversion of the African civilization of Ghana to Islam and the founding of the Islamic Mali Empire and Songhai Empire. In the Horn of Africa and Sudan, Christianity were relatively firmly planted. However, Muslims began to make in-roads by forming naval city-states in Somalia, Kenya, and Tanzania. The Egyptian conquest of Sudan several centuries later led to the conversion of the north Sudanese to Islam.

Where do the taliban live?

Most members of the Taliban were born in Afghanistan.

How does the taliban effect the people in Afghanistan?

The problem with the Taliban is they hold a very extreme view of Islam, and they try to impose it on everyone, even those who might not share that view. For example, Islam does NOT say women cannot study, nor does it say women cannot go to school. But the Taliban are opposed to women going to school, and have burned down schools and even attacked female students. Further, the Taliban have expressed their opposition to popular music, and do not want any kind of popular culture (including television programs) to be broadcast; they believe only religious studies are permitted. Some Afghans, fed up with corrupt local governments, at first supported the Taliban, because people believed the Taliban would be honest, since they were very religious. But the Taliban proved to be eager to hold on to power, and willing to kill those who opposed them.
